3. You know, on paper MacMahon had a really great idea
but he tried to make it too much about football and not enough about the scheming testosterone & bimbo soap opera like what he made Wrestling all about. He alienated his core fans

4. On paper, it was a horrible idea...

NFL Europe, Arena Football, etc. The market was already flooded.

EDIT: Sorry, missed the sarcasm the first time.

5. Don't forget the CFL.
That's the league where the best players play who are quite not at the level of the NFL. The CFL blows the Arena League and NFLE out of the water. But it comes up just short of the NFL.

8. But it's Canada...
...and, well, here in America we hate you and all that you stand for. So why the hell should we watch your football league? Next we'll all be sipping Molsons, wearing red checkered coats and saying "ah-boot"!

Canada can go straight to hell, I tell ya. Straight to hell.

;-)

9. CFL rocks on the NFL
Higher scores, faster game, bigger field, more passes and stuff like that. The CFL is how football should be played.

12. Hey, I love the CFL myself...
I'm a huge Bombers fan.

But once the CFL averages 60,000 per game per team instead of the 26,000 or so it is now, then we'll talk about the CFL being better.

14. I prefer the CFL right now, frankly
Edited on Mon Aug-01-05 03:02 PM by enigmatic
Different game than the NFL, and I'm from the US and about as fanatical Cleveland Browns fan as you can find.

It's a wide-open game, and the fans (and stadiums) are as passionate as those in the NFL and NCCA Football. More fun, too.

And one last thing: Rider Pride!!!!!!!!

21. The CFL used to average 60,000 a game easy in the 80s
In the larger centres. Attendence has nothing to do with it. Most CFL stades only hold up to 35,000 anyway. CFL is meant to be in intimate stadiums. PLUS Canada doesn't have the population the US has.

23. I think BC Place and Commonwealth used to have those crowds.
Edited on Mon Aug-01-05 05:21 PM by SmileyBoy
I just wonder why they don't get those kind of numbers nowadays. Hell, CanadInns Stadium in Winnipeg (formerly Winnipeg Stadium) used to seat over 45,000 and they routinely sold out. Nowadays it seats 30,000 and they only average 24,000 per game. Now the games average almost always between 22,000-38,000. I guess it's actually better than the late-90's, when a few teams would routinely get less than 10,000 to their games (BC Lions, Argonauts), and I noticed that attendance is even better than last year.

Did they just kind of change their philosophy about the fan experience, or something??

13. The CFL would be fine . . .
if it weren't for all the random moose and polar bears wandering onto the field.

11. Yes, but if MacMahon did it right, it would have never been about football
WWE is all about the soap operic relations between testorone filled wrestlers and their silicone bimbettes. He could have done the same thing with the XFL and made a ratings giant. But when I watched it - it was just bad football. He should have added more drama to the game to make it less like another bad attempt at football and more like a soap opera

15. MacMahon had it all wrong with the rules of the XFL
Can't waive for fair catch cause that is the sissy way out, when actual the fair catch rule saves players bodies/lives.

18. Yes, but this isn't the NFL, they want the blood & guts
I mean, it's not like we're dealing with the best football players out there. THese were 3rd rate players who couldn't get into the NFL, Arena, CFL, etc.

19. His mistake was wanting it to be a legitimate game...
He should have made it a football soap opera, like a cross between professional wrestling and "Playmakers".

7. I disagree, I think it was the exact opposite
I think all that garbage with cameras in the Locker room, the bimbo cheerleaders and all the stupid gimmicks turned the real football fans off.
