Is there anything I can eat at a tapas bar? |
|
Edited on Mon Aug-01-05 03:29 PM by DeposeTheBoyKing
I'm the world's pickiest eater over the age of 10, and I don't eat anything "funny" (weirdo seafood dishes, etc., although I do like fried calamari). Nor do I eat pork. We're invited to one Friday night - I'm planning on eating first and just having a soda and conversing!

1. Sure! They'll almost surely have fried calamari, but also... |
|
a slew of salads, and un-scary types of chicken, steak, lamb, shrimp. Lots of small plates to choose from. Be brave! And be a big boy and eat yer tapas.

3. If you can't find something to eat at a Tapas bar, |
|
you might as well stay home. Forever.

7. Tapas means small tastes |
|
so there should be lots of stuff in small portions, I'm sure there will be chicken and beef...so don't fret...you'll eat..

8. Tapas can be anything: Fried vegetables, slices of imported cheese |
|
with sausage on little pieces of bread, olives on toothpicks, pickled pigs' ears (I've had that one).. With luck, there'll be some variety.

9. I've been to only four tapas bars, but I have seen things like |
|
"tortillas," which are not like Mexican tortillas but more like Spanish omelets, as well as a potato dish with ground beef, and various veggie combinations.
All four tapas bars that I've been to have detailed descriptions of each item on the menu, so you won't get any nasty surprises. I hate shellfish and fishy-tasting fish myself, although I do eat pork, but I have no trouble finding plenty to eat.

11. in Spain (home of the real thing), we had deviled eggs, little |
|
scoops of potato salad, olives, some really delicious fish (lightly sauteed), shrimp, and we saw other things we didn't dare ask about.
The word "tapas" means "little bites" so you could find a wide variety of choices.
Have fun.
