Which team went undefeated in 1975 but didn't win the national championship?

1. Was it Penn State?
I know they went undefeated one year, but Alabama won the NC.

Maybe my years are off though...

16. At the time
I believe ASU was not in the Pac-10 - they were in a "minor" conference, and that hurt them.

As for BYU, I think they went undefeated in early 1980's and didn't win - maybe when McMahon was there? I know they did win it in 1984 - this might have been 1982 or 1983.
