Migraines really suck.
There are some things that suck more, but not many.

3. Had one too - gave up "Shock and Awe" and went New-Q-Lar
on it.

Imitrix works pretty good for me.

8. I took some earlier, most times it works
I was at work when I got it, so wasn't able to get to sleep right away. If I am able to take the imitrex and get to sleep, they usually go right away.

5. I've had kidney stone problems, chronic ones
I'm never sure what is worse. Fortunately, I have found a way to beat migraines, sort of. Lots of black coffee and Aleve and a DARK ROOM and silence. The coffee makes the pain recede enough that I can sort of hypnotize myself, and I eventually sleep.

The only other thing that has ever worked is going to the ER and getting a shot of dilaudid, but that's pretty much overkill for a headache. This seems to work for only a small minority of people who try it, but it's worked for four or five people I recommended it to.

The way I discovered this is that I was on the Staten Island Ferry one time with a horrible migraine, and I was walking by the snack bar and despite being ready to puke, the coffee smelled good. So I figured my body was telling me something and I bought a cup and sipped it. Almost immediately, the pain went down. Not a lot, but it was better. When I got to Grand Central, I bought another cup. By the time I got home, I pretty much fell into bed and was asleep in an hour or so. As opposed to writhing around for 8 or 10 hours.

7. Only thing that works for me is yoga. Which doesn't help
if you're at work or in a car or out in public.

I used to take medication, now 20 minutes of stretching seems to lesson the pain.

11. It is strange, they say caffeine can cause migraines
but are often used in treating them once you get them.

20. Kidney Stones/Migraines Here, Too!
I pass kidney stones every 30-45 days and I had 2-3 migraines a week (classic and optic) until I started Topamax. I take 50mg a day and I ony have migraines once a month or less now. No one can figure out exactly why I have so many stones (and I like to baffle them by producing apatite stones in a pH of 4.5, which is supposedly not possible).

Back when I was having them constantly, I had the full gamut of stuff: Excedrin, Fiorinal, Maxalt (which is pretty amazing stuff), Imitrex stat dose... If I caught it in time, coffee, decongestants and Fiorinal would keep me from losing the sight in my left eye.

18. I'm fine.
This is a serious subject to me. I can handle being hot. I can handle being broke. I can handle being hurt. I can handle being stranded. I can handle being sad. I can handle death. I can handle sorrow. I can handle a broken heart.

But I can't handle physical pain.

And I wish for you freedom from pain. Forever.

10. you have my deepest sympathy...i too am a migraine sufferer
and am really sick of waking up at 4am in pain and puking
been traveling with a coffee can in my car for years now so i have something to hurl in as i'm driving to work
i am really sorry...hope you feel better
i really like the gel packs you can put in the freezer, i put one on my forehead/face and one on the back of my neck and they help a lot and if you get the kind that make you queasy weed really does help (not to offend you if you do not care to go that route) but it's the most effective antinausea agent i have ever found
keeps me sane when i want to just crawl into a very dark quiet hole and just sleep if only the pain would allow

take care

17. Understood. Hope you feel better
Just a passing comment: Mine became very infrequent when I became a vegetarian. I noticed before that that i used to get them a lot after eating a lot of meat, especially ham. Nitrites, maybe?

Dunno, might not be related. Just thought I'd mention it.

21. there is a new therapy that reduces them so much they feel like
they have gone or disappeared. It involves holding a device in your mouth while ice water is circulated through it. It does something to the nerves in the base of your brain. Google it or ask a doctor. Its new but it is amazing.
