So, I found a reasonable flight to DC, and a bed for the night (hostel)
So now the question is..... can I really pull this off and go to the peace rally?

I hate the idea of leaving 2 teenage boys alone on a Saturday night....

1. Oh you should go MissMillie
Tell your teenage sons this is a learning experience and if the house is burnt down when you get home you're never ever going to let them by themselves again until they are each 43

2. The other thing is...
it is so hard to justify spending money on a trip. I think I can do this round-trip and overnight (including meals) for less than $250, but spending $250 on myself is UNHEARD of!

13. She can do Providence-Dulles through Independance Air for $117
Much cheaper and closer trip from airport to downtown DC

17. au contraire, mon amie
it may be cheaper, but BWI is actually closer to downtown DC by any form of transportation. A: there is public transport, Metro buses and commuter rail and Amtrak. b: there is a highway (I-95) between the two, c: the taxis are cheaper. Unless you are going to the Virginia suburbs, avoid Dulles.

you could take a train from BWI for $7 which would take you to Union Station, 4 blocks from your hotel. BWI you take a $13 bus to the Metro, then pay $3 on the metro. it's a pain.

21. Yeah,you're right - I just checked Dulles website...
..but they are going to extend the Metro to Dulles.

Well, if worse case someone will have a car in DC - we'll go get her or at least drop her off

25. don't feel bad
it's a common mistake. Dulles is 29.5 miles from the Capitol, BWI is 31. Dulles just happens to be in the wrong direction and not have public transport. They will never extend Metro to Dulles, well maybe in 25-30 years, but there are no firm plans on the drawing board to do so.

7. Where are you getting your flight? - Independence Air is $97 roundtrip
I'm assuming you're flying out of Boston. They have a non-stop Boston to Dulles for $97.

You'll need about $10 total for the metro and the hostels are around $30-40. Food will be cheap because you'll be hanging out with us and there will probably be a ton of food floating around everywhere. But just incase - pack some sandwiches along for your trip. You will get hit if you get the munchies at the protest so best to bring some of your own food along

Plus, I know of a female DUer who has room for other women in her hotel room. Not sure what that will cost but maybe she can help you out for one night.

14. but then you're at Dulles
better to do BWI or National, getting into DC from Dulles will cots you at least $20, if you take the shuttle to the Metro, or 50 in a cab. BWI you can do faster and cheaper, especially during rush hour, on the train or bus.

20. sorry. it's 15 miles from Dulles to the 'tro
you can take the Washington Flyer bus, ifyou'd like, last time I did it it was about $13 bucks. a cab will set you back about $30 to the Metro. plus tolls.

27. dont know but
The disadvantage the Dulles has compared to National is that its not right by a metro station and its not as close to DC being in Dulles.

18. You might want to check the websites
United for Peace & Justice and International Answer usually have west coast protests the same day in LA or SF.

Not that we wouldn't want you here
