A swift kick in the ass - time to get moving...sigh... |
|
Edited on Tue Aug-02-05 01:19 PM by youspeakmylanguage
Wow.
I was just horribly screwed over at work. I'm still employed, but I will need to find a new job in the next 3-4 weeks.
I can't give any details, but sympathy and kind words would help greatly right about now.
EDIT: Maybe I don't need to turn this into a pity party. I haven't liked my job in some time, so this may simply be the kick in the ass I need to get out and get moving.
Can anyone suggest a good career for someone creative, buttoned-down professionally but slightly anti-social and college-educated? A reasonably-good salary is a must. I have a degree in print journalism, but I have 5 years experience in collections, copywriting, and account management. I have a lot of amateur experience in graphic design and HTML.
I'm looking for something challenging and fun, perhaps in graphic design or writing. Any more specific suggestions?

5. It's a sort-of hybrid job... |

It's a combination of copywriting, account management, and customer service. I can't get more specific than that - lots of people here are Internet-savy. I would like to find something more creative and completely away from the customer service aspect of it.

7. Things tend to happen for a reason, even unpleasant ones |

And as much as your situation sucks, you'll be better off doing something you really like instead of being parked in a job of the living dead.
I wish you the best of luck!

...and you in particular. I think that is exactly the message I need to hear right now to get my head straight.

I checked out your web page. You come across as a good man and a stand-up kind of guy. You have your lady at your side, so you won't be going through this alone...and you have us! 70000+ of your closest friends! :)
Hang in there, and keep the faith!

10. My lady is going to be the one... |

...giving me grief tonight - she wanted me to start looking for a new job months ago. Now my back is up against the wall to a certain extent. But I would rather be going through with it with her than without her.
Thanks for the kind words about the site. I'm debating whether or not to take it down until after the job search.
