Who has had appendicitis? Did it hurt like hell? |
|
Mine didn't hurt AT ALL, which made the diagnosis tricky. I just felt really blah and uncomfortable. By the time they diagnosed it, it had burst (still didn't hurt) and I spend a week in the hospital. At least it's gone now.
Tell ya what really hurts. Kidney stones.

I was only five and that is a long time ago, now, but I still remember those sharp, stabbing pains in my wittle belly!

Hurt a lot. I remember it to this day and I was five over 45 years ago.
I remember the effects of the ether most of all. To this day any sort of kaleidoscope makes me ill.

Had an unholy pain in my mid-lower right side, went to the hospital and it turned out I had an ectopic pregnancy that had ruptured. x( Not only that, but upon further examination, the Dr. discovered my appendix is actually on my left side. He said that's not altogehter uncommon...who knew?

3. Not the sharp pain I had expected |
|
More a dull unlocalized pain in the lower abdomen. Extremely TENDER to pressure.

4. No pain, even when pressed |

Pretty weird. What's more, the anaesthesia gave me hallucinations, at 3 AM, and I had to apologize to everyone else on the floor the next day.

Bad enough for ya'? After a couple of hours, it calmed down. Had surgery later that day. Doc said I was lucky it didn't burst.

7. Worst stomach ache of my life |
|
Hurt like hell all across my stomache. Developed a low grade fever. Felt nauseated, threw up once. The surgeons operated at 1:30 in the morning.

8. Was working for the Man when mine struck. > |
|
The Man took it out for me.
The actual 'itis part was second in pain only to the Man's nurse-trainee who gave me lifetime tracks trying to insert my pre-op catheter.
Oh yeah. The humiliation hurt, too. Woke post-op to find myself in a teaching hospital. Shaved, shriveled, nowhere to hide from the cold, hard-eyed soon-to-be sawbones as they tromped along behind Teach.

9. Never had an appendicitis issue.... |
|
but have had TWO kidney stones in the past 10 years and those hurt like hell! There is not enough morphine to subdue the pain...at least for me.

He had a major attack and demanded to be driven to the hospital. Being the dutiful driver I was, I stopped carefully at each intersection and light and drove under the speed limit until he started screaming at me that is was 4 a.m. and we could probably go a little faster before the thing burst and killed him.

12. Being an EXTREME hyperchrondriac, I have had a phobia of |
|
appendicitis since I was a child. Along with almost every other serious illness. Anyway, several times I have had what apparently was gas or something, which caused a small pain in THAT place, but there was no soreness and it went away after a few hours. But during the time, I was freaking out, needness to say.
But my point is, if I ever get it, I will KNOW, right???
Is it also true that the older you get, the less chance of having appendicitis???

but I stubbornly put up with it for a couple days, until my sister came over and all but forced me to go to the hospital. Goes to show she was a lot smarter than me - the damn thing had ruptured, and they had to cut a huge incision to get it all cleaned out. The doctor said I almost procrastinated too long.
