Listening to Sandy Denny right now...
"One Way Donkey Ride." God Hell, what a gorgeous song.

Denny had probably the most glorious voice in the history of recorded music. After a hard day, when I'm feeling lost and depressed, Sandy Denny's voice is sometimes the only thing that makes me feel comfortable. There's a smoky melancholy there that's soothing in just the right spots.

Ah, Limonata and Sandy Denny...folks, it just don't get no better'n this.

4. no kidding
She was (and remains) unparallelled. I listened to Fotheringay the other day....

She died about 30 years ago, didn't she? Fell off a ladder. What a loss.

5. Actually, she fell down a staircase.
Supposedly Richard Thompson's "Did She Jump or Was She Pushed?" is about the day of Denny's death, but I wouldn't put too much thought into that.

It's sad that many people (when they think of her at all) think of her as "that chick who sang on that one Zeppelin song." She had so much more in her than that.

8. There's no one who could touch her.
Not even Maddy Prior (too traditional-minded.)

Maybe K. McCarty.

And, if I'm in a REALLY good mood, Natalie Merchant.

Like I said, a REALLY good mood.
