Rate My Teachers Website
Edited on Wed Aug-03-05 10:07 AM by livvy
Has anyone ever heard of this site before? It seems to be a site mostly intended for kids, but there are some parent ratings as well. What are people's views or thoughts on the site? If you know of any teachers, you might want to pass it along to them. They might be interested to see if they are listed, and what kids and/or parents have to say about them.

1. It's like ratemyprofessor.com
some people post some nasty things on there, but they are clearly bullshit and are easily ignored. It's a relatively valuable resource if the teacher's comments are mostly serious.

2. I've used a "rate my professor" ...
I see both good and bad when using sites such as this.

The bad: generally, only people with strong impressions of an instructor tend to post; therefore, an overall impression of the instructor may be missed.

The good: if an instructor elicits many very strong opinions (or motivates a large number of people to respond) that may be an indicator that how well the instructor is received.

I was motivated to post by instructors I wanted to warn others of, but "forced" myself to post r/t every instructor I had that semester.

3. I am a teacher
And the first time I saw this, I thought it might be kind of interesting to email all my friends with this link and ask them to give me a high rating.

Just sayin . . .

Kids aren't the only devious folks you know :)

9. Well hey
I know plenty of students, you know plenty of students.

Let's create a norm group. hee hee

I learned a long time ago not to trust surveys when kids are the surveyed. Our district does these stupid surveys all the time. Can you believe they survey 1st graders?

12. Why wait?
Go get those student folders and pour through them. You can have those darlings rated before the first day of school. :)

4. I thought your teacher had a website and you wanted my to rate it. lol
Seriously though, I've looked at some of my professors from COllege after the fact, and I tend to agree with what was posted. That is, of course, if there were any posting whatsoever. NOt only does this site require its users to be computer savy, it also requires a wee bit of motivation, something college kids sometimes lack.

6. I've used "greatschools," but hadn't heard about this one.
Personally, I like the idea of rating teachers rather than the overall school, even though all comments should probably be taken with a grain of salt. I just rated all the teachers at my kids' school. Thanks for this link. I'm sharing with friends and family. :-)

8. I agree with you on that.
I found it interesting to read the kid's comments on different teachers. Some of them were pretty sweet, and others were just funny. Out of the mouths of babes, you know.

11. Some kids even left their names after their not-so-nice comments.
:dunce:

I also found ratings for students, :eyes: which I reported as errors.

13. only 6 teachers rated in a school of 85 teachers
the ratings were quite high in all but one case. I wasn't there so I guess I didn't either inspire or piss off a computer savy student.
