All this nonsense over on GD and GDP about rigged elections |
|
Let me tell you "sane" people here. I served on the Cuyahoga County Board of elections....
Each party elects two representatives to sit on the board and represent the party's interests.....
Almost every job in the Building has two people, one democrat and one republican, doing that job.....
These are the only patronage jobs left outside of civil service here in Ohio.....
Everyone is always watching the other one....
Hand recounts are always done with at least one board member from each party at the count....
The Board President is from one party.....
The executive director is from the other....
That is how the Boards are organized in Ohio....
I sat on the board during two elections.....
We were all in the process and we all stayed until the last vote was counted....
But of course there are a lot of people who are out there commenting on the election process who have never stepped inside a board office....
that is, of course, their prerogative as an American Citizen....
I just wanted to give you some facts so that you could have a better perspective about how elections are run in the State of Ohio....

4. They had to do a hand count somehow.. So there had to be a paper trail |
|
Look, the Hackett election went a way lot better than I thought. Portman had been elected with 70% of the vote....
Schmidt was elected overwelmingly in her Ohio House district which is 20% of the congressional distrcit...
Hackett never ran before, came out of the blue and almost upset the GOP's strongest machine in Ohio........

7. I don't know any details about the Hackett "count." |
|
he did better than I thought he would.
close but no cigar again (and again and again)
but I don't trust "elections" anymore
I have been a poll worker
I have been a poll watcher
when machines are used, if the central tabulator is rigged, the vote is crooked.
2000 was a coup, not a botched election.

6. They said they did a hand recount so there had to be something to |
|
count.....
I know in Cuyahoga they still had paper ballot is 2004....
Teh elctronic voting was only in a handfull of counties, But I, in all fariness, do not know which ones....
All I am saying is that there are a lot more checks and balances on the process than what the general public knows....
that should, at the very least, be taken into consideration.....

5. It's true that many elections offices work hard and do a lot |
|
to try to ensure fair elections. But as the poster above indicates, how much of the computerized process is visible to the board members? How techsavvy are the board members and the elections office?
my experience with my local BOE -- good people, but not the most technologically inclined. at the mercy of their technology vendors, in fact. and that's a problem.
