Homosexual Related Question.....or (HRQ)
Hahaha. I am just making up acronyms.

In El Paso there is a gay bar called "San Antonio Mining Company" (don't if it is still ther), and here in Albuquerque there is a gay nightclub called "Albuquerque Mining Company". I don't know if it just coincidence or not, but is there something about the term "mining company" that a straight guy like me has no idea about?

2. Everybody Dance Now
Bart: Dad, why did you bring me to a gay steel mill?
Homer: I don't know!

(for some reason, that just seemed appropriate)

5. The owners own both locations and are making a chain.
Maybe they have the hots for miners with their buff bodies and muscular arms and deliciously tiny waists with those big codpieces...

Dunno. I don't know of "mining company" that has any culture-related connotation.

7. Gay 101
There are "S & M" bars
stands for Stand & Model, or "Sneakers & Makeup", has nothing to do with BDSM. These are actually pretty "mainstream" as far as the gay community is concerned, and in larger cities are rarely 100% gay.

There are "Wrinkle" bars where older mentors go to meet younger enterpreneurs

There are "Hustler" bars where younger enterpreneurs go to meet older mentors

There are Twinky bars, where the crowd is much closer to the legal drinking age

There are Leather bars, where you will likely encounter denim, chaps, and buttless chaps (should you encounter)

There are "denim" bars - "Mining" companies are usually synonymous with poorly lit establishments usually frequented by hairier denizens

Bear bars ("hairy")

Other self evident bars:

Piano
Lipstick Lesbian
Drag
Diesel Dyke
Stripper

and of course, the Dance Club or Disco.

anyone else - have I missed anything?

21. Jugs & Sue Ellen's in Dallas
respectively

I think we're a lot more casual / self-mocking down here. Some things that are just ordinary common vernacular here in the Dallas community make people gasp everywhere else!

Anyway, this is all in fun, not to offend :hi:

dhinojosa I do not recommend walking down Cedar Springs asking anyone where the nearest "diesel dyke" bar is unless you want to be someone's hood ornament, possibly on a diesel truck. This is just "insider" speak among friends.

;)

22. I've been to those bars... actually...
I just had never heard any bars referred to as a "diesel dyke" bar... Dyke bars I've heard, Femme bars, Butch/Femme bars, etc... just never diesel dyke or lipstick lesbian.

And I know you didn't mean to offend... :hi:

(And, having grown up in Dallas... I hear you on the vernacular ;))

27. It's always been a negative term ...
Edited on Wed Aug-03-05 01:11 PM by Misunderestimator
I suppose some gay women embrace it, but I hate the term. Basically comparing a "butch" gay woman to a (male) truckdriver.

Lots of other gay bars in Long Beach without such names. I don't think the term "mining" as a sexual euphemism (however disgusting) is limited to guys.

Fortunately, the friend who liked to take me out for a beer preferred The Brit. I don't think I ever saw a single woman at the Mine Shaft.

17. There is/was a Montrose Mining Company in Houston
I'm gay, but I have no idea what the Mining Company thing is all about. Actually I was straight until yesterday when I saw a pic of Taverner. After that, I had to convert. It is a decision you know.
