It seems Hendrix didn't use a "gay ruse" to get him out of the service
It was too much playing guitar and with other things that got him booted.
This is some interesting reading:

wow... there goes the whole story of his 'back injury' that all his bios give as the reason.

or maybe he got the back injury while he was 'apprehended masturbating' or somethin like that.
