Is "Dark Shadows" about to rise again?
Back in 2002, Fox ordered a pilot that was supposed to serve as yet another breath in the long-dead body of vampire Barnabas Collins. Reportedly they wanted Dan Curtis, creator of the original series in the 1960's, to create a new version of 'Dark Shadows' for the 21st Century, but it went nowhere fast.

snip......

Right now it's just called "Untitled Vampire Project", and it's being worked on by John Wells. Some of the clues that it might be another 'Dark Shadows' are that Dan Curtis is co-executive producer and that the lead characters' name is Barnabas. Those are pretty big clues to me, but after the failure of the series in the 90's, maybe they're being more cautious about throwing the 'DS' title on it this time.

more...........

3. Would be kool if it was well done
the early 90s version was just silly.

I used to watch DS religiously.

4. Me and my sisters would re-inact each episode daily
Of course Jennifer always had to be Angelique. I was always Barnabas or Collin or Dr. Trask. Sister clara was always Julia. I've seen it in syndication in the last couple of years and looking back, it's really hokey. But I still love it.

5. I always watched hoping to see that hand in a box...still not sure...
what the hell that was all about but the fact that my mom didn't want me to watch it made it necessary!

6. My mom was known as a neighborhood witch
one time we came home from our grandmothers and one of the neighborhood kids had put a katsup covered manaquin hand on our door. I still laugh when I think about how my mother screamed that night when she touched it.

7. I think Angel
has set a new standard for attractive in dark creepiness.

If a new DS can commit to the same level at least as Angel, then they'll be in the right path.

15. You hit the head on the nail
There's so many Buffy/Angel writers out there that could use a new writing gig. I say hire them in mass and let them go with a new mythology.

16. I would love to see Barbabas and Angelique again,
but they certainly must have aged, big time, and it wouldn't be the same with other actors. That kind of thing never works. A movie might be appropriate, though, so who knows?

8. My Mom watched Dark Shadows every day
I was a little kid and it scared the hell out of me and now it makes me laugh.
I love Dark Shadows and when I watch it today I love seeing the mistakes that were made while filming.

You can see booms and cameras hanging from the ceiling. The walls move and the Actors mess up on their lines.

I LOVE IT!

10. The '91 retread of Dark Shadows ...
... was more about sex than storyline. The possibility of a new DS being on Faux is unnerving. My late cat's name was Cassandra, which was the name Angelique went by in the '68 (Adam/Eve/Nicholas Blair) storyline.

12. I loved that show
I watched it every day after school, as a kid. I wanted to be Angelique and, to this day, wear a large ring on my index finger. For me, nothing could replace the originals, though they are pretty creaky, if you watch them now. I am quite sure that there is a cult following out there that feels the same.:-)

13. The original Dark Shadows T.V. series was ever so cheesy
but the theatrical movies they made (House of Dark Shadows and Night of Dark Shadows)in the early 70s scared the living daylights out of me when I was a kid. For years I was convinced that Barnabus Collins was hiding under my bed.

I never saw the 90's remake of the show, but I guess I'd tune in if someone did another remake of the T.V. series. The original cheesy soap opera was a big part of my youth... I remember rushing home from school every day so I wouldn't miss it. Did y'all know Kate Jackson was in the original DS series? She played Daphne I think.

14. I loved that show, as well
And I saw the movies. Yes, Kate Jackson was in it. I have the definitive book on the subject. I can't seem to lay hands on it, at the moment, but it was published by the woman who played Maggie/Josette. It was published ny Pomegranate Press and had all the episodes. You can also rent or buy the videos. I borrowed some from a friend and stayed up way too late watching "just one more." Somehow, I don't think a remake would be the same.:-)

17. Drove a Black Dodge Shadow
and of course we had to put red gothic lettering "Dark" above the Shadow on the back of the car. Was suprised by how many people got it.

18. I believe it has quite a cult following, even now
Maybe we should check into it! I guess I just don't want to be accused of being as obsessed as the Star Trek people. I believe I remember that model of car. I had a Plymouth Duster. Great car!
