It pisses me off when people go to the casino with their children and make the children sit OUTSIDE the gamefloor for HOURS while the parents gamble their hearts away.
Sickening. Child Protective Services ought to patrol casino grounds.

1. LOL! My parents did that to me in Reno once. |
|
Edited on Wed Aug-03-05 07:10 PM by GOPisEvil
It was only about 30 minutes or so. An hour at the most. My 9-year-old reaction? "Reno is the only place where adults can play and kids don't." I obviously hadn't heard of Vegas at the time. ;)
But hours on end? :grr:

5. Yes. When we stayed at the Choctaw casino a week ago... |
|
Edited on Wed Aug-03-05 07:16 PM by Maddy McCall
I checked into the hotel at 4:00. The kids were sitting there. We unloaded the car and took all of our stuff up to the room and I came back down to move the car to the parking lot (since I'm to cheap for valet). The kids were still sitting there.
At 7:00, my son and I went to eat. The kids had moved to another bench, but they were still sitting there. However, I saw their mother come over to them and hand them a casino Coke to split. I kind of observed from a distance. She spoke to them for about 30 seconds, and then back to the slots floor she went.
AT 10:OO PM, my son and I went down to buy some snacks. The kids were still there. The oldest was probably ten, the youngest was probably about five. The little girl, the youngest, was asleep on the bench with her brother sitting beside her. The other brother looked to be about seven or eight.
If I would have known where their mother was, hell, I would have asked her to let me bring them back to the room for Cokes, snacks, and to play Playstation with us. I figure she probably would have let them go, seeing as how she allowed them to care for themselves for AT LEAST seven hours. :grr:
Broke my heart.

If you're going to do that, leave the kids with other family or friends. Selfish people like that should really examine whether they need to be parents.

2. Older children in strollers. |
|
It pisses me off when I'm at an amusement park, or even just out in public, and parents are pushing an 8 year old in a stroller (and I"m not talking about a special needs child.)
The kids always have that royal pout, as if their parents are doing their job to serve them. It is creating a larger generation of brats... becuse when they get to my clsasroom, it's a whole new world, baby!

34. Obviouly, I can't know that every older kid I see in a stroller isn't |
|
special needs, but when you hear them speak to their parents, making demands, telling others to "get out of the way", etc, they aren't special needs. It's not like I stare or say anything to the parents.
We have Disney passes and are there all the time. We have been watching voer the past few years and have noticed how much large strollers are being designed. The stroller companies are looking to increase their sales by increasing the size of the strollers. It's really quite a clever deal they've got going.
I have taught special needs kids. Their behavior is quite different. And even so, we really pushed out special needs kids and wouldn't let them use strollers and carry them in our arms when we took them off school grounds.

at the Silver Star hotel/casino.
By the way, if you ever want to get away from the coast, you HAVE to go up there. It's nice, and the rooms are CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP.
Indeed, I am sure that mother gambled away a couple hundred dollars. She could have gotten a room for about $50, maybe free with her player's card, and the kids could have at least had a safe room to stay in.

We are going to have to plan that Meetup - I say October/November will be perfect time.
Also, Mardi Gras on the Coast is something to consider. Our office is right next to the parade route. We are closed for the day and we use the office as a place to chill between parades.
Things to consider!

If your Mardi Gras isn't the Saturday before Fat Tuesday, I'll see you there! Otherwise, I'll be in Monroe, LA for their Mardi Gras. I have a standing engagement for the Sat. before Fat Tuesday in Monroe.

Last year the morning and the evening parades were throwing tons of stuff. Open invitation for you and MMjr to be sure. *February 28, 2006 is Mardi Gras* You better mark your calender.
They used to have the blessing of the fleet, well they still do, but it has decreased in size and importance over the last several years. They stopped allowing the pleasure boats to be a part of it and the shrimping fleet has decreased in size. It is almost too costly to be a shrimper these days, the cost of ice and gasoline. The costs and the Asian imports have hurt the industry here. The blessing happens in June and has passed.
There is a boat parade on the water during the Christmas holidays in both Gulfport & Biloxi, they usually occur in early December.

It's the little things that get to me. Like being out somewhere listening to a band, where there is only standing. It seems I always find the group of glorified frat boys and their girlfriends and they have to play catch-up with their inane lives WHILE THE MUSIC IS PLAYING!!! Hello, dipshits spending daddy's money, some of us WORKED FOR THE TEN BUCKS we spent to get in here, and we'd like to hear the fucking music.

If you have satellite, check out Discovery Times Channel. Look for the documentary on Mississippi Race Issues....can't remember the name of it.
You will feel VERY good when it's over, having seen three Klansmen rot in jail at a very old age.
It's an excellent documentary, and it's playing all day, throughout the day today, on DTMS. (Discovery Times)

and they have made great mistakes! And, how can you know that Lucy was half human. YOu scientists just want to shove evolution down our throats.
Now, if you want to talk about "adaptations" caused by God's hand, then I do agree somewhat with that. But don't you dare try to teach my kids micro and macroevolution. Satanist!!!!
;-)
Yeah, I teach world civ. Amazingly, I've only had two students complain. I told them it was their choice, that they didn't have to listen to my lecture on early protohumans, but that they WOULD be responsible for the material.

Edited on Wed Aug-03-05 07:47 PM by Maddy McCall
I start my evolution lecture with a piece on the difference between science and mythology.
I read to them the Cherokee creation myth. They all giggle and laugh, and then I read them the Christian creation myth, and they sit silent, knowing that they've been caught in a trap.
I told them that believing in creationism required faith. Believing in evolution required scientific proof. That you could have faith in one hand, and learn scientific theory in the other, and neither should challenge the other.
Then we move into evolution--the historical side, of course, and we look at the technical accomplishments of each...and the increase in brain capacity through time.
I've only had two complaints, and those were before the lecture.
I actually had an Episcopal clergymember's daughter come to me and THANK me for teaching her something that had been taboo in her household. She did say that she could believe that God's guiding hand had worked through evolution. I WAS so proud of her. She had broken through a barrier that had prohibited her from even enrolling in anthro classes. I heard from her a couple of years ago. She had changed her major.
Guess to what.
ANTHROPOLOGY.
:woohoo:

I've seen all three... sometimes the window is cracked...often times not
One old gentleman was struggling to unlock the door, he was all white and clammy looking....I noticed him because he was trying to pound on the window ...turns out he couldn't walk...just left in the car on a really hot day in Georgia...he had had a minor stroke (or so the EMTs believed)
I called 911 while my husband went in search of the cars owner...my husband didn't trust me not to hit the owner.
