So, my life just changed 180 degrees.
Well, I’ve had epilepsy for so long that it’s just part of who I am. I have been controlled for years, drive a vehicle, other than taking my medication, ensuring I don’t get overtired and avoiding alcohol it hasn’t bee a huge deal.

I’ve been tired, more, fatigued, for a couple of months. Some hearing loss and ringing sent me to an ENT for an MRI

So on Saturday morning I woke up with the mother of all headaches. 2 Advil and 4 hours sleep didn’t touch it. 2 more Advil and 4 more hours sleep and it was still screaming away. In the late afternoon I got up to assess, went out on the balcony and had a seizure.

My GF called 9-11 and I was taken to ER. The T-3 killed the headache and they increased my medications slightly. Normally, sleep would help me recover. I slept most of Sunday- that didn’t help. I slept most of Monday, a holiday here in Canada, that didn’t help.

I called my boss Monday night and told him:
1) my doctor has my MRI results.
2) he wants to see me tomorrow (yesterday).
3) he’s talking about sending me to a neurologist.

Saw my doctor, Tuesday. He believes the headache was more likely a symptom than a cause, he wanted blood and yes, I’ll be seeing a neurologist. THE NEXT DAY.

Called my boss, told him I won’t be in.

Saw the neurologist yesterday. In addition to his ordering more blood withdrawn from my arm than I thought possible he ordered a bunch more tests and told me not to drive.

One of the tests was and EKG. After the test the attendant told me to put my shirt on and left the room. I, nosey person that I am, looked at the screen. It appears that equipment “suggests” diagnoses now.

The screen said “definite pathological symptoms”
“suggest acute ischemia”.

When I got home I looked up ischemia
Ischemia: <physiology> A low oxygen state usually due to obstruction of the arterial blood supply or inadequate blood flow leading to hypoxia in the tissue.
Origin: Gr. Haima = blood

That can’t be good.

Now I'm getting a ride to the office to break the news to my boss. I'm giving him no more info than I have to.:(

14. Yeah, I know that, but
I imagine that the EKG machine is programmed to recognise patterns. When it sees a pattern it says "hey, you, don't forget the possibility of X". But I forsee a cardiologist in my future.

Poor blood flow would account for my stupidity lately.

2. I hope things work out for you
perhaps like other diseases, epilepsy treatments must change as a person ages, I have a friend who is diabetic, and she went through a bad time with her blood sugar for a while, her medications were changed and she's doing fine now. Hopefully they have medications that can correct this situation for you.

3. Oh my...best wishes!
I hope it's something that can easily be treated.

Thankfully, you have access to good healthcare. Can you imagine the added stress of having to figure out how you were going to pay for all this treatment?

I hope you are well soon.

7. I was thinking about that yesterday.
I can't imagine how people face this without health care.

15. They often "don't" face it..
They ignore symptoms until they are brought to the ER in an ambulance, and some of them do not survive then..

I am glad you are on your way to a diagnosis, and hopefully your doctor will have a good treatment plan for you
