When somebody turns a thread into a flamefest to SILENCE IT.
What should be done about that?

I recently had that happen to a posting of mine, and the good information the posting was trying to convey was wiped out of DU existence by a single poster who over and over again posted flamage to the thread and likely also alerted repeatedly.

How does one handle that situation?

Otherwise one can destroy any message that is posted to DU with a trivial effort.

4. It's not up to us to govern DU...
...it's up to the mods and Skinner. You can alert them, or even send an email describing the situation and the posters you feel are responsible. But if they refuse or choose not to do anything, you're out of luck.

You can always start your own message board...

11. I have no idea how to stop people from flaming your threads
in order to silence you...Except to alert on whoever is doing it to YOU...

I think behavior such as this is reprehensible in the extreme, and should be fought whenever and wherever possible...

Anybody else have better suggestions? Because I'm sure that they are out there...I just don't know them.

 :hi:

13. I am trying to figure out how to deal with it socially...
From within the thread. How do you get the person to just let it be?

14. Keep relentlessly reposting
under different headers. You probably have far more fortitude than the flame artist. They burn out quickly.

I'm really curious about the subject now for sure.

Post on.

16. Locking.
Use the alert button if you have a problem with a particular DUer. Let the moderators do their job.
