Housing Prices - MY GAWD
we bought our house 8 years ago for $135k

house around the corner is listed at $419k

smaller lot, same # of bedrooms, LESS privacy (those who have been to my house can attest to my back yard), and 1/2 bath LESS!

:wow:

2. You should move out to LA and try to find a house
You're lucky if you can even find a 1 bedroom condo listed for $200,000.

Insane.

It's a hard market to get into, at this point... we are trying to buy a 2-family, pay some of the mortgage that way...

6. Same thing is happening here.
And Richmond isn't nearly as pricey as Boston. We paid $125 for our house 14 years ago. We added on recently, but a house much smaller than ours sold for $285 last week.

For some reason this neighborhood is really, really hot. Houses are on the market for 1-2 days and then gone.

33. Good heavens, Midlo. We live right up Midlo from you in Bon Air,
and we bought our house 12 years ago for $130,000. Wonder what it would go for now?? We have kept it up and put in a $12,000 underground heat pump system... geez, maybe we should sell now!

10. Yessss
Oregon has some bat-shit crazy housing prices too. We watched our $55k house go for $365k in less than three days. And that was several years ago.

We would simply not be able to buy the house we're living in now.

21. Republicans love to say that Shrub carried this county in 2000.
However, he didn't win a majority. Nader took about 10% here. Add those to Gore, and the Chimp would have lost.

The lesson as always: Republicans are idiots. :)

34. Biggest Real Estate Price Gains Seem to be in BLUE STATES

Why would real estate in Texas be so much cheaper?

Could it be the 99-degree heat and 99% humidity?

Could it be that a lot of people are moving to BLUE STATES?

45. I'll ignore your bashing of my home to actually answer you.
Land is cheaper here because there's more of it. If the weather was such an issue here, why is our population growing by leaps and bounds? It isn't ALL new births.

Stop making yourself sound superior because of where you live.

Try San Antonio. $400,000 would buy a mansion here, with acres of land, or at least an acre with lake views, in Canyon Lake.

32. Here people are selling and buying up in a big way.
My husband wanted to move two years ago because we needed more room, essentially to escape from the teenagers. Everything I looked at that would have given us a basement or a finished third floor was in the 500-600K range.

We decided to stay put, add on and couldn't be happier. The house is worth three times what we paid for it, is almost paid off, and is exactly the way we wanted it.

When I was looking, I was looking for a 4 bedroom house with an office type layout. Well, when we added on, we created a fifth bedroom that was going to be used as a rec room sort of. My FIL has since come to live with us, so if we HAD moved, we would be totally screwed.

Plus, I am definitely one of the smaller is better crowd.

just so you know.... the $50k is ONLY for the wife and her washing machine

NOT the house. if you want both, its $750k

now, if you want me along to cook, the price jumps slightly to $4,500,927.60

just FYI
