E-mail scam. What a crock!!!
Just how stupid do these scammers think the American public is? I replied by asking them if they also wanted my social security number and all of my bank account and credit card numbers. Plus, I am not a Citibank member. Message below:

Dear Citibank Member,

This email was sent by the Citibank server to verify your e-mail
address. You must complete this process by clicking on the link
below and entering in the small window your Citibank ATM/Debit
Card number and PIN that you use on ATM.
This is done for your protection -- because some of our members
no longer have access to their email addresses and we must
verify it.

To verify your e-mail address and access your bank account,
click on the link below. If nothing happens when you click on the
link (or if you use AOL), copy and paste the link into the address
bar of your web browser.

2. Well
Edited on Fri Nov-07-03 08:25 PM by onebigbadwulf
you're half right.

It sends you to 2 windows.

One window http://zcvnvmri9.da.ru/?DzelNtgH7htxa2N

which is a Russian site (.ru) that brings a pop-up asking for your

debit/ pin/ exp date

Which then forwards you to http://www.citibank.com/us/index.htm
which is the real citibank website.

The pop-up info goes to the con-artist in Russia, while the browser goes to the real citibank in America.

I hope no one filled in the info.

Edit:

P.S. I used to do this when I was in highschool... just in case you're wondering)

Beware of Fraudulent E-Mails or Phone Calls

Citibank wants to make sure your personal information is protected.

Recently, some of our customers have reported that they were contacted by phone or e-mail and asked to provide personal information.

In several cases, the persons sending these e-mails or making the phone calls stated that they are from Citibank. However, these e-mails and phone calls were in fact from imposters. An important signal that an e-mail is fraudulent is that it contains a link directing you to what appears to be a Citibank web site with a pop-up window asking for personal information, such as:

• Card Number/CIN
• Social Security Number
• Date of Birth
• Drivers License Number
• Card CVV Number and Expiration Date
• Mother's Maiden Name

To see examples of this message and other fraudulent e-mails, go to www.citibank.com and click on the "about e-mail fraud" link at the bottom right-hand side of the page.

If you have any concerns about the legitimacy of a phone call that you have received from someone who says they are from Citibank, do NOT provide information. Instead, you should promptly disconnect the call and contact us at the number provided on the back of your ATM/Debit card.

If you have already replied to a suspicious e-mail or phone call and provided personal or sensitive information, please call us immediately at 1-800-374-9700.

To ensure a legitimate and safe sign on, ALWAYS enter www.citibankonline.com in your browser.

5. I got one very similar once supposedly from Dillards
they even went through all the trouble of creating a very good duplicate of the Dillards website.

Never ever put your info into something like this.

6. Pretty dumb
Because you answered it.

Which means your address just went to dozens more spammers.

As a 'live' one.

Next time...don't open, don't reply....just delete.

8. That's OK
Edited on Fri Nov-07-03 08:27 PM by RebelOne
Because I am using AOL and pay a fortune for the service, I have spam control and can report them. I also receive at least one Nigerian spam mail per week. I delight in replying to them and say that I have a great bridge in Brooklyn that is for sale.
