3. Parties are generally filled with the illiterati
The many gatherings I've been to, though - those have been great!

And when I worked for the consulting firm, our firm parties were fuckin' awesome.

But in general, parties are just clueless collections of clueless people wanting to get smashed, who aren't interested in intelligent conversation or rational discourse of important matters.

9. I bet they are!
I couldn't imagine that you would let the illiterati in, or invite any poseurs.

15. The type of gatherings you described...
are not called "parties", but meetings, support groups, book clubs, forums, etc.

They usually serve wine, but drinking to the point of :puke: is discouraged. ;)

16. Ha!
Hardly "support groups" or "meetings."

We would love wine if we could get our hands on some :)

More just hanging out, talking, listening to music, watching movies, playing ping-pong.

5. How do you define "parties"?
I hate massive gatherings of people where you can never get in a decent conversation, especially "parties" for people my age, where all people want to do is drink, shout at the tops of their voices over music that is blaring out of speakers and where's there's no standing room.

Put me in a medium-sized room with five or six good friends and I'm totally there.

If you define the latter as a "party" (and we do have fun), then I've been to LOTS of parties. Define it as a massive crowd, and I've not been to very many and I don't intend to.

13. I'm right there with ya
For me, it's about the company, not the party aspect. Medium sized room with 5 or 6 good friends is as good of a party as I can ask for! :)

14. until I fell on the floor, I drank more....
but I have such a tolerance now that during my weekend party time, I can take down about 8-10 beers and not feel a thing. I haven't puked in a long time.
