My friend bought his 19 yr old daughter a car, but
she was "afraid" to drive, so she never drove it.. Mooched rides with Mom or friends..

He went to Japan on business for 2 weeks, and while he was gone, and Mom was at work, she drove his BRAND NEW COMPANY CAR...a CADDY..and hit someone (not a pedestrian..another car)...did $11K in damage..

She has no license...no insurance...no job...

The other driver she hit had no insurance either, and apparently they didn't feel they had much damage..so they drove away.. She called a tow truck and had the caddy towed home...then called her Mom and asked her to meet her and her girlfriend at a restaurant.. She thought that if she "broke the news" in public and with a friend, her Mom would "take it better"...

She did NOT..:(

They are very upset because she's had bulimia and depression, and they don;t want to "send her off the edge", so Dad got her a job with a friend, and is making her pay them back..That's about all he can do :(

Kids..

2. Let me get this straight.

Mom and dad want to avoid sending this young woman over the edge, but they buy her a car and get her a job with the intent of having her pay them back? Wouldn't those resources be better invested in a residential treatment program that might save her life? Just askin.

4. They bought her a car whern she was 17 so she COULD
work, but that's when her emotional problems started, so they sold the car and she DID see a therapist for the last 2 years.. But of course, she's not in school, and is not covered by their insurance anymore, so it's a pinch.. She seems to be past the eating issues.. The job her dad got her is about 2 blocks from their house, so she walks.. She has NEVER had a license ..

I have known this girl since she was about 7 yrs old, and it breaks my heart to see her so screwed up.. My youngest son even tutored her so she could graduate. She's one of the rare girls with ADD..

I only hope she can keep the job..

5. Wow..
I'm 19 too and it's hard for me to even imagine living at home 24/7..never driving..not going to school..I would feel so stifled. Hopefully the job will help her branch out a bit and some good will actually come of this car situation!

6. She became "afraid" of lots of stuff when she was about 15
and even had to be homeschooled.. She's been seeing a shrink for a long time.. I just hope she comes out if whatever's bothering her..

She's an only child who was so wanted (they tried for 12 years before she was born).. They never really spoiled her, but any only child gets extra attention..

7. I can
identify with the only child stuff, I'm an only too. Hopefully she can work through these mental-health problems, sounds like she's been dealt quite the raw deal. :( Does she see a psychiatrist as well as a psychologist? Medication doesn't solve everything and is so far from perfect that it's not even funny, but I hope she's at least seen a Dr.

9. ADD not rare in girls
It turns out their symptoms are different than boys. Girls are what we call the daydreamers. They are quiet in class, keep to themselves and daydream.
Since this behavior is not disruptive it is not noticed or treated. It's kind of sad.
