i'm married, and i did it for the legal protection of our children. we did not have a wedding, just went to the courthouse, signed the book, and forgot about it. i had the mother-in-law from hell, and knew that i would have a court fight for my kids and any joint assets if anything happened to my partner. i also knew that my partner is the kind of guy who would be ugly splitting up.
20 years later, 4 kids later, i have been grateful for the protection, especially as a full time mom.
