Ever seen "Citizen Ruth?" Watched it last night and all I can say is |
|
Terrific send-up of fanatics on both sides of the abortion issue.
And of course, Laura Dern, although she's skinnier than the women I usually say this about: hubba, hubba! Even as an irretrievable junkie.

But one that's hard to watch in places -- especially when you watch Ruth huffing.

Even though I'm adamantly pro-choice, I thought the movie did a good job of showing how the real human experience can get lost in even worthwhile political struggles.
I think it added another small voice to my consience that resonates during political struggles unrelated specifically to abortion.
It's absolutely vital that when fighting the good fight, we remember we're ultimately doing it to make peoples lives better (and keep the planet livable for future generations - which I guess is part of the same goal). Reminds me of the Goethe (or was it Nietzsche) quote "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster". Maybe a bit strong, but the same underlying truth.
A kick for Citizen Ruth!

Laura Dern was great.
Didn't she get an oscar nod for this?

7. No Oscar nom for that one -- she got one for "Rambling Rose" |
|
Did you ever see "Afterburn?" She portrayed the wife of an Air Force pilot killed in an F-16. She's just great.
And dammit. I just found out (www.imdb.com) she is YOUNGER than I am! :grr:

I was wondering who else here liked it too.
It really did cover everything and it was pretty funny.

Alexander Payne is brilliant! His movies are full of quirky Omaha stuff. :loveya:
The only one I was less into was Sideways, but it was still a good film. :)
