Is it pronounced "Caribbean" or "Caribbean"? Which do you prefer? |
|
When I'm speaking geographically, I usually say "Caribbean". But when I'm referring to the movie or the Disney ride, I say "Caribbean" instead. (As in "Pirates of the Caribbean".)

8. Ca-RIB-be-an, the way it's s'posed to be pronounced, though |
|
I still use 'Carib-BE-an' for some things, such as the Disneyland ride that's now a movie. Force of habit.

I can't see any variation of how you wrote Caribbean, no accents/bold letters, so have no idea which one I should pick.

11. "Car-ib-BEE-an" is correct |
|
But I want to pronounce it "Ca-RIB-be-an", which was popularized by JFK. Maybe good Democrats should pronounce it the JFK way, just like good Freepers should say "nuke-u-ler".

CaRIBbean for the area, CaribBEan for the ride or movie. "Pirates of the CaRIBbean" doesn't sound right.
