The veggie truck is still running!
Three weeks into driving on used veg oil and the biggest problems have been related to accessory mounts with a tensile strength of akin to warm butter and a major mess caused by allowing my electric pump to overfill my on-board veggie oil fuel tank. It's so much fun commuting on free fuel, especially when surrounded by SUVs.

The VW mount bracketry for the AC and the alternator is one of the most failure-prone I have ever seen. Sure, all of the stuff is quite old, but I could design a better system with half the parts.

Anyway, I'm begining to look for a second VW diesel, a wagon or maybe a Vanagon. Something to replace the big station wagon.

If any of you Lounge Lizards are also gearheads and are itchin' to get into a new project, I would reccomend you try one of these conversions. It works! If you are not so much a gearhead but are still interested, then check out the kits from www.frybrid.com, about the best I've seen.

1. They also sell kits to "brew" your own biodiesel.
It's probably expensive to invest in, but I bet it pays for itself quickly.

2. Well, that's a whole 'nother can O beans.
With biodiesel, you have no need to modify your car, which is a plus. So, you will spend to create the biodiesel reactor, and not do anything to the car. If you plan to use waste veg oil (WVO), you will have to spend for collection (tank/drums and pump), storage, filtration and maybe a dewatering system, so it adds up.

One must choose which way one wants to spend ones time and fundage. Both biodiesel and straight veg are good alternatives to dinodiesel at this time. I am interested in biodiesel, but right now I'll stick to straight veg.
