Suppose they reinstituted the draft...
and suppose all those objectors who were drafted declared that they were gay or lesbian.

Wouldn't that force the military to reconsider its policy toward gays in the military?

1. Sure, they would review it
but then they would have to make segregated units.

And could they? I mean, Gays and Lesbians do not have any rights.

Anyhow...i do not know what would happen.

3. You think so?
Why? I mean, gays have been in the military for ages without requiring special accomodations, despite the theories implying that visual stimulation makes men sexually uncontrollable.

It's about war...not sex. I think all soldiers should share the same barracks regardless of gender or sexual orientation.

I don't know, I just thought I would bring it up. I do not know if they could even do it though.

6. LOL...Maybe they'd cancel the war
due to lack of "eligible" participants.

2. Hmmm. . . Interesting. I burned my card in 1971
Along with my friends at the Kegabrew Saloon in Detroit. (My number was too high to worry about, in 1970, I admit - not a brave act). Still, that's the way to go. Wouldn't be surprised to see the draft reinstated, with numerous exceptions for Bush donors.

5. Donors will probably be able to send replacements...
if they're willing to pay them enough.

9. When there's war, herd 'em up and kill 'em all. In "peace" time,
shun them and exclude them from serving their country which they feel they need or want to do.

There's a gigantic double-standard at work. We're tolerated and even wanted when it comes time to save this oh-so-wonderful country from dastardly characters we created in a previous chapter, but otherwise we're spat on. I've got a huge problem with this.

Personally, any country that relegates people to second-class is unsavory, especially when they take out first-class taxes and claim, amongst other things, that ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL. (Though I'm still trying to fathom how they could say that and support slavery... odd fellows, our forefathers...) Indeed, I can't fathom why we glbt folk would want to support our country when cretinous creatures like Bush* are in power. "Do unto others"...

11. I can't imagine it either in this case...
but I'm sure they exist. I was just thinking that this could be an opportunity to make the best of a bad situation.

On the other hand, I guess the military would see to it that the glbt community didn't get press about their patriotism.

10. I'm not worried about getting drafted...
if I did get drafted, I'd tell the govt. where to go. I'm not going to die for oil or a little spat between two world leaders. I have a bus ready in case that were to happen. I have room for many more if anyone is interested. Canada, anyone? ;) :)

12. Well, some soldiers were declaring they were gay/lesbian
when they found out their unit would be deploying to Iraq and the army said,"whatever"

But should the draft happen...I hope ALL young people make the claim ...it would be interesting to see what happens.
