How and when is the best way to broach the question of political

1. I do this when meeting new people...
(I'm married, but when meeting new acquaintances...)

when they ask what types of hobbies I have, I say things like: gardening, genealogy, cooking, political activism, writing, painting.....

Tends to draw them into conversation about what's going on right now, then you can get a handle on what they are based on answers they give you. Even the subtle ones are clues.

And if you get a feeling they are angry about things, or that they hate Bush, you can go from there!

If they repeat any right-wing talking points, you can walk.

5. Bring it up in casual conversation
Early on! No point in getting your boxers all twisted up over some Ann Coulter clone.

"You really have to check out the Conservative Idiots articles on democraticunderground" is sure to make things clear to both of you.

Khash.

6. Comment on some news article...
say, the Idiot-in-Chief's ever-declining poll numbers...and say "Christ, Bush is such a worthless pigfucker. Good to see America is waking up to the fact." See how they react. If they get angry, then you know not to call them again.
