Rant about teenagers and fundies.
Okay, I have a 15yo daughter who for some reason is amazingly beautiful. No idea where that came from. Friday night her friends are all having a sleepover and they pass the word not to invite her.

Well, of course, she is heart broken because she has no idea why they did this. They were all at the pool having fun and the next thing she knows they aren't talking to her.

Turns out they were going to sleep a one girl's house, and then sneak out to go drinking at the house of a boy who just graduated from high school and they knew my daughter wouldn't go/approve, so they decided to exclude her.

The best part about this??? They are all products of fundamentalist Christians who delight in talking about the loose morals of the democratic party. My child, who is just as liberal as me, is the one refusing to go along with the drinking and Lord knows what else.

Don't know how we got to this place, but I am really, really proud of her.

1. sometimes it's good to see stuff like that at a young age...
it prepares you for what you'll face throughout life & helps define your personal character...

it hurts like hell when it's your peer group...

i also learned about hypocrisy at a young age, but it helped make me who i am :)

5. We had a long discussion yesterday about the courage of
your convictions. I don't know what has made her so rabidly anti-drinking, but I sure am glad about it. Too many kids die on the roads from alcohol, including the husband of a dear friend of mine, ironically, her daughter was one of the ones who went drinking. What is up with that?

She is a very compassionate person and can't understand why the right so demonizes people based on who they love. She is also totally opposed to the war.

I keep trying to get her to sign up here, she lurks a little, but doesn't think there is anyone her age.

2. You should be proud!
Maybe it's just the kind of mood I'm in, but I'd rat out the kids.

:)

3. I can't. I swore to my daughter that I wouldn't.
And, since she trusts me, I can't betray her, but man oh man, do I want to. These fundies are so stuck on the whole gay rights, abortion thing, and 3 out of the 4 girls in this situation have moms who had abortions.

Talk about hypocrisy.

16. Besides, those super hypocritical fundie parents are always
the ones who refuse to believe (or maybe just admit) their child could do anything wrong.

4. I love hearing stories of parents who raise responsible children.
Congratulations to you and your daughter!

As for her fundie friends' behavior - ironic, eh?

7. I would encourage your daughter to enlarge her group of friends
to include the non-fundy.
This little group of friends could just decide to permanently dump her one day.
Which might not be so bad, but the effects could be tempered by a larger, more diverse group of friends.
She's smart, she'll probably figure this out on her own, though.

8. Congratulate your daughter for me
and I send my congratulations to you for raising such an outstanding child. I am a high school teacher and see things like this quite often. In my school district there are many "thall shalt not..." type fundamentalists, but there is an amazing number of liquor stores around here.

I wonder who is keeping them in business? :sarcasm:

Once again, I salute both of you!!!

9. Congratulate her for me too.
And if I can complete your quote about the fundamentalists: "Thou shalt not... but I shall!" :)

We all remember being left out of something. I love your story though because to me liberals have always been the ones with morals. Conservatives blow a lot of smoke up your backside and then stab you in the back. I have always felt more accepted with real liberals. Good for you and good for your beautiful child.

12. Yeah, conservatives think morals are something....
to be enforced on others, not standards to which they hold their own
behavior.

14. That's what I told her.
And, thank you.

I also told her that she could side step the whole thing and still be friends with them, and maybe even be the designated driver, because that is what she had envisioned doing. She has a nice male friend who is the DD, and she thinks that is important because it seems like all the kids here drink.

It is a pretty scary time for me.

17. Speaking as a teenager, I can vouch for our suckiness.
I'm more like your daughter philisophically. I don't drink, etc. If others want to, fine. It's just not something that appeals to me.

Of course, the girls who got thrown out of several of our school dances because they were drunk or drugged are all spoiled brats from millionaire families.

Good for your daughter.

18. kudos for your daughter. sounds like a great kid.
fundies are invariably hypocrites

and invariably crooks.

throughout history, they frequently are responsible for acts of horrific evil

they'll lie, cheat and steal. never do business with them.
