What kind of an idiot would turn a 4 year old loose on an ATV at all let alone without direct supervision? Someone please tell me. It was on CNN just now. There's a river nearby and they found one of his shoes and what they think is a fender of the ATV

Shoe Found In South Platte River

KERSEY, Colo. -- Searchers in Weld County are looking for a missing 4-year-old boy who was last seen Friday night riding an all-terrain vehicle about 5 miles from Kersey.

Divers, searching the nearby Platte River, said they found a fender from the ATV and a shoe from the missing boy. Four dive teams are probing the river for more clues.

About 150 people are involved in the search, which is being conducted in the river and on the ground.

1. People juist don't think
I wouldn't let a child under 12 on one an ATV without direct supervision. In fact even above 12 I would be watching.

5. I used to work for an insurance agency that specialized
in insurance for Polaris products (ATVs, personal watercraft, snowmobiles). We would also insure other brands, but the suggestion for the program came from Polaris.

Anyway, Polaris ATVs were sold with the notice that they were NOT intended to be driven by anyone under 18 (if I recall correctly, in some states it's illegal for ATVs to be driven by anyone under 18). We were not allowed to write insurance for anyone who had an under-18 driver for their ATV.

3. I see little kids on their ATVs around here all the time.
People love to roar around the neighborhood non those damn things. I don't even think it's legal to do so on public streets. I'll even see their little kids very obviously under the age of ten in their shorts and tank tops speeding around the corners. I almost hit one. Bunch of idiots.

4. While we were at my uncle's cabin in northern Minnesota,
I saw a little boy driving an ATV all by himself. No adults to be seen anywhere near him. He looked to be about my daughter's age (five). It amazes me that people don't seem to realize how dangerous that is.

7. No shit
The lack of motor coordination, not to mention lack of judgment at that age (that probably rivals his caregivers). Un-fucking-believable.

9. I wonder if it's legal for a 4 year old to drive anything?
Weird.

11. There's probably no law one way or the other
I mean, who'd have predicted any parent could be so stupid to warrant one? That's down there with "Loaded guns make bad pre-school toys." Guess that teaches me not to underestimate people.

I hate the fucking machines in the first place, but these "parents" should face criminal consequences.

10. that's incredibly stupid
The parents need to be charged with neglect... or endangerment. Whatever charge fits, because it's their own fault.
