Is it just me or do you guys and gals think Bil Keane is the biggest Thomas Kinkade-loving, koolaid drinking, Freeper bushbot in the world after looking at all his dorky comics. Maybe I'm overexagerating but that is what I've come to these days...
BTW Doonesbury, Garfield, Mother Goose and Grim, and Get Fuzzy are my favs. A really good non sequitur in the papers today too - makes you think about stuff as usual.

1. Yes, I hate that "comic strip" |
|
And I use each word loosely. Especially "comic."

I worked as his son Glen's assistant for years. They are "liberal Christians". Bil is actually funny as hell (unlike his comic). Very, er, "bawdy" sense of humor. You'd never guess it by reading "the family circus".

7. National cartoonist society. Yep-I've been at those dinners |
|
he actually has people in tears their laughing so hard-and most of the society's members think his comic sucks, too-but they love Bil anyway.

3. I never liked that cartoon strip either |
|
I don't know how who writes it has stayed in the business for so long. Meanwhile Boondocks isn't in my local paper.

Is the comic strip version of "Father Knows Best," totally hokey, stuck in the 1950's, yet guess what?
We still read it. And love it.

12. I agree. I still like it. I have a ton of "not me's" running around |
|
causing all kinds of problems in my house.
It always reminds me of the Family Circus when I ask the kids who did something and I get the "not me" and "I don't know" responses.

If only those were printed...
Or sometimes the Far Side captions would get exchanged with other comics...

11. There was a site called |
|
Dysfunctional Family Circus, where the programmer would display a comic each day without the caption/punchline and invite people to submit new ones which you could look through. It was funny as hell, but Bil's syndicate found out about it, and Bil himself called the programmer, who came to think that Bil's a really nice guy so he voluntarily took it down. I saved some of the cartoons and typed in my favorite captions that were submitted. My two favorite were:
Jeffy at the table pointing to a broken dish and saying, "I told you! A dark spectre with 'IDA KNOW' on his chest took control of my body and made him smash that plate! Dear God, why won't anyone believe me???!!!"
Three of the kids in the bath with Dolly speaking to Jeffy and PJ saying, "For the last time, Jeffy. Billy didn't survive our holding him under water because Billy was a sinner. Are *YOU* a sinner, Jeffy?"
The cartoon actually got flak when it first appeared because the religious conservatives of the day didn't like what they thought was his cavalier attitude towards Christianity with all the "cutesy" attitude of the kids towards God.
