I'm still trying to figure out what is the most over the top thing I've done for my cat.

And you?

1. WE took our vacation time to take pur 2 dogs to a
doggie picnic! It was a lot of fun, and there were 100 little doggies, all the same breed, and they were allowed to run loose in a fenced area of a beautiful farm in TN.

The trip involved 6 hours drive each way, and 2 nights in a motel.

What do ya think...does that count as over the top???

2. Food, water
and a clean litter box. That's it.

P.S. and all the the petting, scratching and combing he demands.

Okay, the cat owns me.

3. Pulled a string out of my cat's ass.
It was gross, but painless enough for him, I guess. I just held on and he walked away, purring. Gah.

7. I'll probably hate myself for asking, but how did a string...
get up your cat's ass?

15. That's my best and only guess.
If he didn't eat it, I don't want to know.

5. Pet her
I like my cat, but I never really doted on her. She was a stray who was starving and trying to hunt down food in our back yard with no success. So we fed her. After a couple of days we let her into the house and she's been a part of the family ever since. We took her to the vet and got her some shots and neutered. We take care of her, but we don't do anything "over the top."

8. Jake (my Akita) hurt his shoulder on a long walk at the lake this week..
And he was limping with his front right paw a bit. I wanted to wait 24 hours to see if he'd get better, and I wanted him off of his feet for as much of that time as possible. Sooooo, I put him on his comforter/bed and whenever he wanted to go somewhere in the house, I dragged his 75-pound butt there. From the bedroom to the living room to the back door to the office, I dragged him (he likes to follow me around). His food & water were brought to him as well.

A bit odd, but I guess it helped. He was back to normal in 24 hours. :P

11. Heart surgery.
My girl Grace had hemorrhagic sarcoma. She was 11, which is fairly old for a Rottie.

The surgeon said that there was a chance for her to have another couple of years, and she was in excellent health otherwise.

We thought, "Well, in two years, are we going to be asking ourselves why we didn't try? Was it the money?"

So, we tried it...but the cancer was very advanced; she couldn't be saved, but she could've been awakened if we wanted to say good-bye. We decided that it would be too hard on her, so we let her die on the operating table.

My forever dog, you know?

Also over the top: Gracie was an attendant in our wedding.
My girl. My good girl.

13. Right now I'm in the process of teaching my 18-year-old Amazon how to fly.
He hasn't flown since he was a youngster and he was singularly bad at it. Against all advice from bird experts, I've decided Gabby is bored and that he needs to learn to fly to liven up his life. I need to get him accustomed to a harness (that should be fun) and to the feeling of lift. Once he masters the basics, he needs several "safe perches" in various rooms of the apartment. I'll also have to remove hazards.

Yes, it could be dangerous, but the bird seems bored. He could use a bit of a "lift." :) Once he's well trained to fly to my hand, I can take him outside on a harness and leash.

But this will take time. He's set in his ways. :)

14. For my dog...where do I begin?
He's a Bull Mastiff.

When he was a puppy I bought these humungous steel no skid bowls, but he was scared of them. I had to get down on all fours and pretend to drink from the water bowl for a couple days till he got used to them.

The same for the food, but he would lay down about three feet from the food bowl. I fed him by handfulls of the dry food laying on the kitchen floor. I think he milked that situation.

I turned down two jobs in California because the firms would not let me bring him in occassionaly if I had to work on a Saturday.

He sleeps on an afghan my mom knitted.

I told an civil engineer at the last firm to "fuck off" when I did bring him in on a Saturday. The guy was on the other side of the guilding but it "bothered" him.

He was scared of the stairs at my new apartment. I had to carry him up and down for a couple of days.

I took off work and stayed with him all day after he got fixed and brought the food a water to him.

He's my pal, and I had not had a dog since high school.
