OK, I got the 'multiple choice' spam from my usually non-political brother
Edited on Mon Aug-08-05 12:52 PM by Richardo
You know the one, it lists a terror act then lists 4 choices for who caused it. Choice "D" is always 'Muslim male between 18 and 50'; because RW'ers think that only Muslims can be terrorists.

Here's my idea: I've started a post called "The questions they left off the test" and want to 'Reply All' with the following questions:

A) 168 people died in a terrorist boming in Oklahoma City in 1995. The terrorists were:

a) Superman
b) Easter Bunny
c) Muslim males between 18-50.
d) Non-Muslim male between 18-50.

From 1920, Great Britain and Northern Ireland experienced numerous fatal terrorist bombings and shootings. The terrorists were:

a) Superman
b) Easter Bunny
c) Muslim male between 18-50.
d) Non-Muslim male between 18-50.

In 1963, the President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. The assassin was:

a) Superman
b) Easter Bunny
c) Muslim male between 18-50.
d) Non-Muslim male between 18-50.

Name me some other 20th century (non-Muslim) acts of terror.

On edit (thanks JimmyJazz) I'm changing the answers to 'Non-Muslim males... etc etc'.

12. yeah I got this and came to DU for help too!
Here was my reply to that e-mail:

The ISSUE deserves serious discussion.

Not the best logic here though, when events are selectively chosen with the same answer to "illustrate" a "pattern" How many (Muslim? by this the author must mean non-white - or will there be religious inquisition as well?) young men between 17 and 40 are there on the planet? How many bombings/shootings/assasinations/kidnappings etc have been committed by white males (Christians, or so they claim, no less)?

By this logic I would recommend we preemptively lock up any white male about to get a divorce - aren't they always going berserk and shooting up innocent folks?

Those are YOUR rights too, that those "dunder-heads" are trying to protect.

Oh and just off the top of my head:

jfk, mlk, weather underground, unibomber, ok city, charles whitman, columbine HS, the IRA, son of sam, john wayne gacy, hitler

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
then I included a set of photos from a poster here at DU (sorry haven't learned how to do them back here yet)
This young man is Egyptian
This gentleman is Jamaican
This cutie is Yemeni
This young girl is Cuban
For future reference:
This man is Iranian
This guy is Irish
27. Sounds like my OLD mom....
before I got her to grow a conscience.
I had been raised in a racist household, and wasn't ALLOWED to watch "Roots!"
I was very sheltered from anything that showed blacks; I was sent to Catholc school at 10 (for four years before high school) so I wouldn't be bused.
When I first saw "Mississppi Burning", I was completely blown away. I went into the other room, stunned, and just sat there like a stump. She asked me what was wrong, and I told her about the movie, and how horrified I was.
"It was just a bunch of niggers," she told me. That was 1989.
She has since become a human being with my coaching, and by last election, was a Deaniac.
42. Thanks Bert!
Started off slow....I was appalled when she said that to me. We'd used the word in my house all the time growing up...
My dad grew up in Chicago, and mom from Belleville, IL (very German Catholic, racist place across the Mississpp from St. Louis). It was nothing new. But after that night, I was FURIOUS. FURIOUS that she had turned me into a little racist without me even realizing it.
I turned to her and snapped, "If you EVER use that word in front of me again, I'll walk OUT of the room!"
Then, I did. I was absolutely livid. I don't think I talked to her for 2 days.
From then on, whenever she said it, I'd walk out of the room. It took her awhile to realize. She'd get mad, come after me and say, "How dare you walk away! I was talking to you!"
And I'd say, "I told you that if you used that word again, I'd leave. I did."
So that was step one. Remove the offending term from her vocabulary completely, so I could discuss "black people" with her instead of some inhuman group.
So then, we moved onto the THOSE PEOPLE way of thinking. I'd say, "What about Cathy? What about the Joneses?" I'd bring up really nice neighbors we had. Or coworkers. Or people out somewhere. "Well, they're different," she'd say.
"How are they different?" I'd reply.
She could never quite come up with a good answer.
I'd start conversations with the lady behind us in line at the grocery store or our waitress in a restaurant and joke around with them. I MADE her see these people as JUST LIKE HER.
And when I moved to Dallas, and started working downtown, I was a minority. Just about everyone I worked with was black. So they taught me a lot, and I once again, I passed it on. I had a close friend who was black, and mom liked her.
Finally, she realized what I'd been talling her all along. Several years ago, when I was really depressed about things, she cheered me up by saying that she was so proud of me, because I had made her into a better person...with all my passion for justice and my activism and all that...she said she knew that if my dad could see me now, that he would be REALLY proud of me.
That's part of what keeps me going.
