I am suprised that Russel Crowe is not in this new movie "Troy"
Anyhow, they are coming out with a new movie called "Troy". I guess it is supposed to capitalize off of the successes of Galdiator.

Well, it has an all star cast.

Brad Pitt is the Greek hero Achilles.

Orlando Bloom is Paris

And there are other actors as well such as Peter O'Toole and Eric Bana.

Here is a link to the movie information.

http://movies.yahoo.com/movies/feature/troy.html

It also has a trailer.

Diviertanse! :-)

2. Of COURSE Helen is a blonde. Puke.
Edited on Sat Nov-08-03 10:35 AM by tjdee
The most beautiful woman in the world, who starts the war, is a thin, young blonde. Get that meta message, women. Learn it. Believe it.

/end pissy seriousness

ORLANDO!!!!!!! OOOHHHHHH BABY!!!!

Ahem. I love Greek mythology, I'm all over this picture--even though I'm sure they'll keep the role of the gods out of it. So I guess it's Greek history. Can't WAIT to see how they do the Trojan horse.

3. Yeah...I don't think there were many "blondes" during that time...
Seriously. Ethnicity-wise...I don't think that region had too many
blondes. I think Helen was most likely a brunette or even a very
dark haired woman. MAYBE "dirty blonde" but that's pushing it.

other homely dark Greek women....

:puke: either way. The same thing as Jesus having blue eyes.....

Really glad to see that even in the 21st century, casting people are so 'creative'. This is one of my really big pet peeves. Casting really sucks in Hollywood. For such a "forward" thinking industry, they really stick with the same old boring stereotypes.

6. To be fair..
If *everyone* had dark hair and she was a super-blonde, it would be pretty exotic and thus would make her more attractive.

Just my 2 cents.

Personally I prefer brunettes though. :P

10. Hehe
I agree with you guys too though. Obviously they chose a blonde for their own reasons. Of course Brad's blonde too ain't he?

Personally, I think it would be way cooler if Helen had like purple hair or something. Some seriously freaked out hair color, maybe give her contact lenses to give her some inhuman, yet totally hot eye color. *growl* :P

Then I could see why people would throw their empires away in war to get here. She was supposed to be beautiful yes?

Maybe I need to re-read The Iliad and see how detailed its description of Helen is, other than "d00d shes fuckin beautiful!" (my impression of Homer as though he were alive today :P)

I know we have similar tastes in celebrities...

Have you gotten a look at Cillian Murphy yet (from 28 days later)?

Hold me back, LOL, he is a dreamboat for sure!

13. Homer SAYS she was blonde.
Of course, given the age in which he was writing, if Helen was the most beautiful woman in the world she was probably fairly "well-padded" too. But we'll NEVER see that in the movies.

17. A-HA! It's all Homer's fault!
Edited on Sat Nov-08-03 11:43 AM by tjdee
That makes me feel a bit better, but I find it amazing that Homer's idea of the most beautiful woman (and he was writing some 4,5 hundred years after the Trojan war...is he our only source on this, LOL?) is exactly the same as Hollywood's today!

Amazing I say! Hollywood picks *this* picture to be historically accurate...really charming.

Oh, LOL, I'm being silly, for sure. You and everythingsxen are right about this. :-)

5. Anyone know if..
Troy is going to go for the more "mythical" version or the more "historical" version?

From the sounds of the description I would think the latter. My cousin thought perhaps it was the former, and they didn't want to call it the Iliad for fear that the American public would scratch their heads and give a collective "Ill-e-ad? Me no understand.". I doubt that is the case though.

*sigh* Oh well..

The trailer looks to be that way too, but it *is* just a teaser trailer right now. None of the major roles are gods...though, they have to explain Achilles' heel...

And Sean Bean is Odysseus! How cool is that!

I hope they don't just cheese it though. I mean I will see it anyway. Still, it would be awesome to have Achilles be his badass invincible self. :D

A sea-going adventure.

I will probably wind up seeing both. I'm a big historical epic fan, even if the history isn't always accurate. Sucker for certain types of pagentry I suppose.

11. I wanna see M&C as well
Looks kinda spiffy. Sounds sort of mysterious and spooky the way they talk in the trailers, like they are fighting a ghost ship or something. My impression is that it will work out more like the 13th warrior, i.e. guys pretending to be something supernatural. I haven't checked the official site or any other site about it for that matter.

18. I wonder if we'll get to see Brad Pitt...
going all "George Bush" on the Trojans after they kill his true love Patroklos, his homosexual boy toy.

Probably Hollywood will draw a veil over that as well.

22. I'm wondering this for "Alexander" too...
Edited on Sat Nov-08-03 11:57 AM by tjdee
Hollywood seems to be on a Greek/ancient world kick lately...

Alexander the Great is coming up soon (with Colin Farrell, an interesting choice, LOL, I'd heard it was pitched to Leo DiCaprio first), and the whole world knows that he had a male lover (played by Jared Leto in the movie, it was...Hephastion I think?).

Wonder if we'll get a gander at that--doubt it, we'll prolly be treated to a tale of how much he REALLY LOVED the Persian princess he married (and she'll be blonde too. Hahaha, just kidding, she's played by Rosario Dawson I think.).

On edit--
Hmm, the picture is being directed by Oliver Stone, of all people, and apparently there IS mention of Alexander's homo/bi sexuality. And Angelina Jolie plays Alexander's mother. And frighteningly, Alexander is blonde too (which isn't so scary until you think of Colin Farrell in a blonde wig)! :P

23. LOL... she'll probably also save him...
in the nick of time from the turban-wearing Persian "insurgents" who keep picking off his soldiers and dancing in the streets every time a Macedonian "bites the dust".

I wonder how long it will be till they get around to the Hollywood version of "The Satyricon"? tjdee, who do you think they'll cast in this:

"Finally, up came a male prostitute, dressed in myrtle-green shaggy felt, which was tucked up under a cherry-red belt. He pulled the cheeks of our bottoms apart and banged us, then he slobbered vile, greasy kisses on us, until Quartilla, carrying a whalebone rod, with her skirts up round her, ordered an end to our torments."

"Eumolpus, who was such a sexual miser that he even regarded me as a boy, did not hesitate a moment to invite the girl to the ritual of the buttocks."

Freaking Greco-Romans!

20. No gods?
No gods at all? ;_;

No Hephaistos breaking out his flamethrower?

No four pages spent on the Shield of Achilles?

No Achilles being killed by the ancient Greek equivalent of an AWP Whore with Aimbot? </Counter-Strike humor>

Still, I'll probably see it like 5 times. I'm such a classics geek.
