Give thanks for the successful passage of several key pieces of legislation including the highway bill, CAFTA and the energy bill, before Congress adjourned for summer recess. Pray that each of these bills will bring about far-reaching benefits for all Americans.

Pray for President and Mrs. Bush as they continue their working vacation at their Prairie Chapel Ranch in Crawford, TX, asking God to protect, strengthen and refresh them as they enjoy their time away from Washington. Pray also for President Bush as he travels to seven states to speak with Americans and as he meets with members of our military and their families throughout August, asking God to use him to bring encouragement and strength.

Pray for U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton as he begins his diplomatic work at the U.N. Pray for wisdom and insight from God. Pray for those who continue to work for freedom and peace in Iraq, asking God to guide those who are now writing the Iraqi constitution, the first draft of which is due on Monday, August 15. Pray for inspiration and wisdom—particularly regarding the issue of religious freedom--as they write and for a positive reception by the Iraqi people. Pray also for the defeat of all forms of insurgency, asking God to strengthen Iraqis as they seek to serve their country.

Pray for the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee as they continue consideration of Supreme Court nominee Judge John Roberts, asking God to guide them prior to confirmation hearings which will begin next month. Give thanks for the tremendously positive results of President Bush's annual physical which revealed his health is excellent and his daily disciplines of diet and exercise have paid off. Continue to pray for protection and safety for President and Mrs. Bush, for health, strength and spiritual growth. Pray that his disciplines of diet, exercise, Bible reading and prayer will continue to be strengthened and will inspire many to honor God similarly.
