I realize I'm about 6 years late on this guy but over vacation I read Me Talk Pretty One Day, and so did my wife when I was done. Both of us were making fools out of ourselves in public laughing out loud. It's not like his stories (at least the ones in that book) are anything super interesting or out of the ordinary. But just the way he describes things and the language he uses just cracks me up to no end. I'm actually looking forward to reading some of his other stuff.

4. I like David Sedaris too

"Naked" and "Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim" are equally as good as "Me Talk Pretty One Day". I didn't think much of "Barrel Fever", which are fictional stories with a totally different vibe..didn't really enjoy that one.

Her show "Strangers with Candy" was one of the funniest of all time. Check it out on DVD.

7. Oh my god, that book!

I've read that thing 4 times now and each time I still laugh out loud. Literally, out loud.

You have to read the Christmas elf story. It's in one of his earlier books and in a collection, Holidays on Ice.

He's so funny. I just love him. Me Talk Pretty One Day is my favorite out of all his work though.

8. I ruined a computer keyboard because of him

I can't remember the book, but it was about being an elf at I think Macy's. I was at work, but spewed a mouthful of cereal onto the keyboard after laughing so hard. Shorted the system out.

There are some who hate his speaking voice, but hearing him tell those stories himself adds a lot, I think.

12. I listened to Me Talk Pretty one on audio tape on a long trip

and I damn near drove the car into the ditch several times!

It was hysterically funny.

His brother "The Rooster" still lives here in NC and has a floor refinishing business.

..nearly made me wet myself I was laughing so damn hard. I can't believe is brother makes t-shirts and sells "You Can't Kill The Rooster" products. Between him, David, and Amy Sedaris I can't imagine what growing up in that family must have been like.
