Anyone use a foam mattress?
Edited on Mon Aug-08-05 07:23 PM by midnight armadillo
Specifically a latex foam one? I am thinking when my family moves after the New Year it'll be a prime time to retire our 7 year old queen size mattress. The latex foam ones sound so comfy...

And how about those latex foam pillows? Anyone tried those or the buckwheat hull ones?

1. air and foam
We have air bags with a memory foam mattress on top. I have to pump up the mattress from time to time, but other than that it is quite comfy.

3. I use a visco-elastic memory foam bed topper.
This is what I got, along with the cover. They got my order wrong the first time, but the topper has been a huge help. It feels as good as Tempur-pedic to me. I'd like a better pillow. I got the two pillows for a penny, but their quality isn't as good as the topper. Good quality memory foam is expensive.

I got the full four inches, hoping it would help my back and I think it has.

5. What for exactly.
 I couldn't resist. I had to ask.

Yes, I have a foam pillow and I wouldn't trade it for the world. Long story there. My aunt had a foam pillow before I was born. Note "before I was born". Once I was born, she lost it. She said one night when I was about 3 years old, I brought my pillow in to her room in the middle of the night when she was asleep and yanked her pillow out from under her head while she was sleeping. She said in one fluid motion, I slapped my pillow (nonfoam) on top of her face and took her pillow back to my room with me and went back to bed. After that, she let me have it. I slept on it until I was 20 years old. It lasted that long but it started falling apart. I couldn't find another one like it anywhere until I happened to see a Belk sales paper. I can't afford Belk normally. Well they had a foam pillow that wa s normally $50 marked down to $25 so I retired my ol' trusty foam pillow.

I don't have a foam mattress, but I want one bad. I drool at the thought of that much comfort at one time. It would be delightful.

7. Why, what ever do you mean?
Is there something...naughty one is supposed to do on a bed or something? ;-)

I think the responses in this thread are what I figured they'd be - everyone seems to love 'em. I also found out that natural latex doesn't harbor dust mites, which is a key benefit for my wife & I (allergies!). On top of that they last for 20 years...

9. A good solid foam pillow will keep right on going
until it finally starts crumbling. I'm a pillow freak anyhow. Always have been. My first birthday party had a pillow theme because I have always loved them so much. At any given time, I have 4 or 5 pillows on my bed in different places. They are just cozy. Not all of them are foam pillows, but only because I can't afford that many of them...

8. Are these the equivalent of
the Tempurpedic mattresses? Here in New England, we've got several discount furniture chains who sell the same stuff cheaper than the Tempurpedic mattress, and as soon as I can afford it, a mattress is one of the few things I desperately need. I wake up in pain every single day without fail.

I tested both the foam and the Select mattresses, and I preferred the foam because it requires no adjustments. On the air mattress, you need to fiddle around with the settings until it's "just right" which can make for some dissatisfactory nights at the beginning. On the foam, you just plop yourself on it and voila! sleep!

11. I have a 2 inch tempurpedic topper in a slip cover on my
waterbed, in lieu of a matress cover. It is wonderful, wonderful, and is helpful in reducing wave motion, too.

no need to heat the bed anymore, either.

12. I have the pillow
I love it. So far, it's lasted about four times longer than a regular contour pillow, and it's still in great shape.

Well worth it, imo.

I can't afford a foam mattress yet...but my regular one is ok, so there's no rush. Once it goes, I'll get a foam one.
