Here are photos I took on Haight Street of the various shrines that people made... I haven't updated this page in years, but here's a link for those who want to explore. The camera was an Apple QuickTake...you could put 16 photos on the internal hard drive... Oh, um, some were slightly altered... :headbang:

Thanks, Jerry!

5. Nice. Real fucking nice.
Such a badass, making fun of the Dead. Like no one's ever done that before.

7. There are times I wish I weren't a mod...
because I would be able to respond to insensitive, mean-spirited crap like this more openly.
Unfortunately, to do so is a personal attack, and not allowed-even though I wish I could.

9. I have a bootleg (SBD) of the entire funeral ceremony in Golden Gate Park
along with all the material Dick Latvala selected to play for the ceremony. Very heartrending.

Here are some photos from the tribute at Golden Gate Park:

And since those photos were a tad small, here's one from an event in 2000:

17. not to worry fellow Heads, the music never stops as long as we're here
yeap, i have been thinking about august 9th for ten years now. it is also the anniversary date of my first wedding, so not much good happens on 8/9 as far as i can see.

just kick back and remember that we are the eyes of the world and each of us has a path for ourselves alone.

19. A friend of mine at work was an extreme, card-carrying Deadhead...
I got the call at work from my sister when Jerry's death was announced (she used to sit glued in front of cable news around the clock).

I walked into this guy's office and didn't have to say a word. I looked at him, he looked at me, nothing had to be said.

I have all of the "official" Dead and Garcia releases, as well as approximately one third of the "Dick's Picks" series. I was never a Deadhead, never went to a concert, but songs like "Stella Blue" and Wharf Rat" are among my all-time favorites.

:toast:

Rhino is releasing a new archive CD tomorrow:

JERRY GARCIA
The Jerry Garcia Collection, Volume 1: Legion of Mary

The Grateful Dead's revered and mercurial Jerry Garcia pursued an eclectic array of side projects throughout his life. A continuation of the Merl Saunders/Jerry Garcia band, the pre-JGB Legion Of Mary conjured an inspired rock and jazz vibe. Featuring Merl Saunders, John Kahn, Martin Fierro and former Elvis drummer Ron Tutt, the quintet played over 60 now-historic shows from December 1974 to July 1975. Characterized by hard grooves and that unique Garcia improvisational style, the unit disbanded in the wake of concurrent Dead activities such as the Blues For Allah sessions, but the never-before released recordings on this two-disc collection capture their magic.

CONCERT FILM (1990)
Jerry Garcia Band: Live At Shoreline

$19.99 DVD

On September 1, 1990, the Garcia Band played a particularly poignant kind of show. A Grateful Dead show was originally scheduled for that date, but the Dead's keyboard player, Brent Mydland, had recently died. Rather than cancel the gig, the Garcia Band stepped in to deliver one of their most heartfelt performances. Bonus features include interviews with Robert Hunter and band members, a mini-documentary, and photo galleries. 135 MIN.; COLOR; NOT RATED

20. Make sure to listen to Jerry today!
Here's some from his last concert with the band:

Here's a tune I wrote and recorded back then:
http://www.writersact.com/jerry/content/sound/jerry.aif

Your Guitar Sounded Like Angels

I stood there mesmerized, I saw madness in your eyes
As you spoke with your soul, taking over complete control
then letting it float away, I had nothing more to say
Your Guitar Sounded Like Angels

Many had listened to your every word
and your strings cut through then faded and blurred
roses and begonias and skulls flew through my mind
Your Guitar Sounded Like Angels

We'll miss you, Jerry
I can hear you in the clouds
We'll miss you, Jerry
Now that you're six feet in the ground
So long, Jerry
We think we knew you well
We can see you in the ocean swell

Your Guitar Sounded Like Angels
