That will teach you to open the "candy jar" on my desk
We have had two dogs die, one four years ago and one two years ago this October. We have both dogs in brass urns. The urn of our first dog is engraved with his name. There's a place near my office that will do the engraving near my office, so I'm taking it in at noon today. This means I had to bring the urn to work with me, and since I didn't want to leave it in my car, I brought it into my office and set it down on my desk.

I have a grabby co-worker. I left my office for a few minutes, and I found her, urn in hand, screwing off the lid (the ashes are in a sealed compartment inside the urn, so they are safe). I said, "What are you doing?" and she said, "Oh, I just wanted a piece of candy, but this lid is screwed down tight,"

I said, "There's no candy in there. That's the ashes of my dead dog,"

She laughed. "If you don't want to share, just say that!"

I said, "I wish I had candy in there, but I don't. It's just my dog," I screwed off the top of the urn to show her the sealed compartment, which is marked very clearly "Cremains" and requires a screw driver to open.

She looked at me a long time, and left my office without saying a word.

5. This is a particularly grabby co-worker, and I usually have candy
I'm in HR, so I usually have something to munch on, since people are pretty stressed when they come to see me usually. I must admit, the urn kind of looks like a candy jar, if you squint. Hopefully, she will learn from this. I think she's kind of freaked out right now.

10. people went through lunch box and found a book on Buddhism, I got a
I got a Angry, Belligerent lecture on Their Savior Jesus Christ that nite,, Graveyard shift.. it was totally Buzzard.. when i went for lunch i discovered the lunch box was opened and the book up side down. I didn't miss that job, it was at a Porno shop... yes folks, religious fanatics working at the Pee Show Palace.

another time i was fired after a serious teaching they went through my coat and found a book on Buddhism.

I lost a job this spring because someone told the boss that the "Free Tibet" sticker was about the Dalai Lama.. which explains the belligerent attitudes from coworkers, acting like playground bullies calling me..."Dalai Lama", like it was dirty word.. Now the Boss Actually Was a Free Holiness Pentecostal Preacher, This guy tore me a new ass hole big enough for jesus to return thru. but it was about a little dribble of pee in the bathroom, "If you cant Pee like a man you need to squat like a Woman" !!
Which is what i had actually done, wasn't my pee, 12 hour shifts with no breaks and a 1/2 hour lunch not gratis, i was too F'n tired to stand to pee. I mean this guy was Furious.. foaming spittle at the corners of his mouth.. he had that church stage cadence they get in his Righteous Indignation.. that went on and on for about 15 minutes .. repeating the same thing over and over... oh well, Tashi Delek.

8. ROFLMAO
I'm sorry. It's sad that you lost your dog, but the egg must've really been on your coworker's face on that one. The fact that she didn't believe you and the way you described her reaction was a great piece of writing. I like that. You're good. As far as your coworker nosying into your stuff, well, that'll teach HERr.

12. A buddy of mine from college told me this story...
...he used to have a "grabby" roommate, always snitching candy, etc. So he filled an empty bag of chocolates with those chocolate-covered laxative tablets, and left them to be "found".

Many lessons were learned that day, I can tell you.

Heh.

16. Maybe your dog taught a self centered person a lesson.
What a good dog.

Sorry for your loss.

You'll have to update us on her progress as a thoughtful human being, if this was truly a life altering incident for her.

Again, my condolences on the loss of your dog.

19. LOL!
In life, that dog seemed to have opposeable thumbs. He was very adept at opening things. Once, I caught him opening the fridge for the Chow. He literally opened the door and held it open while she stuck her head in for a long, slow sniff. Hi-larious!

20. I kept a candy jar on my desk at the hospital
That's how I met my husband; he used to stop and get candy from it, as did all the residents, attendings, etc. It was a clear jar! I have NEVER seen a BRASS candy jar! What is wrong with your coworker?
