Tonight on VH1 at 9pm: Premiere of Green Day's new video!! |
|
The video is for "When September Ends" and it has a major anti-war overtone. I was a little shocked to hear that they're putting it into the rotation for VH1 (yes VH1 does show videos) so it'll be interesting to see the reaction when folks see this video.
Green Day has been a major anti-war/anti-bush band. My favorite quote from all of the Live8 performances has to be what Lead Singer Billie Joe Armstrong said "We're not anti-American, we're anti-war" (then they played Holiday)

I was mildly obsessed with them in the Dookie era...well I was a 14 year old girl and I had an unexplicable crush on the bassist. :P I sort of grew out of them when I got more into old school punk and then into goth/industrial.
Maybe I should start listening to them again. Everyone keeps telling me this latest album is the best one they've put out.

but American Idiot has gone straight to "legendary" status - it's that great of an album and I've read where it's actually sort of a 'Rock Opera'.
And I have a crush on Mike Dirnt too!

When I was in the 8th grade, my best friend had a crush on Billie Joe and another friend had a crush on the drummer...we used to write these horrible stories where we all ran off with the band, like we were the Chipettes or something.
What can I say, we were 14.

Well, I wasn't a 14 year old girl -- but I loved them when they first came out and then kind of got over them.
I have to say, AMERICAN IDIOT is not only their best album, it's one of the best albums of the decade so far! They've completely revitalized their career and reinvented the whole "neo-punk" genre as a socially conscious art form.
Get it, you won't be disappointed.

The SO got me an iPod as a belated birthday gift. I may just get American Idiot off iTunes. I should have *some* legit music on the thing.

3. Came across the video yesterday at AOL. |

It was pretty powerful.
And of course, freeptards felt the need to post the usual diarrhea-of-the-keyboard comments suggesting that Green Day are Saddam-loving traitors who want to destroy the US.
These people need a new message. I mean, really. There just isn't even any logic to this kind of shit anymore. It's like a pathological knee-jerk reaction at this point - somebody doesn't agree with you so they obviously loved Saddam and hate America.
:eyes:
But whatever. The video was interesting.

Is the only CD I've purchased in the last 2 years. It's one of the few that's actually worth the money.

8. I saw it an hour or so ago. |

They have the music so loud you can't hear the words. The video story is a guy that signs up for army, his girlfriend doesn't want him to. He goes to Iraq and is in a heavy battle zone. I couldn't tell at the end if he died or not, seemed like it was cut short with his GF crying on a bench.

btw, that's 'thirteen' Evan Rachel Wood as the girlfriend.
I saw the video on AOL and what I did like is it shows the reality of what our soldiers are dealing with over in Iraq. This isn't a picnic - it's a war and our soldiers die in wars especially when it's a war where the host country isn't too keen on us being there. And it shows how the war affects those of us at home.
