Movies NOT to watch on a first date.
This question is inspired by Forest's Deliverance thread.

What movies would you NOT watch on a first date?

I would vote Deliverance...A few years ago, a guy friend that I had been seeing casually came over to watch some movies with me. Deliverance was laying on my DVD player, so I said, "Deliverance?" And he said, "Hell NO!"

So, my vote would be that Deliverance is not first-date movie material. What's yours?

over to some friends of theirs for dinner. And, he said afterwards their friends, also a married couple, wanted to watch a film, so they all sat down to watch a movie, when the couple tossed in a porno, haha. My friend said he and his wife sat and watched for a few minutes then made excuses to leave, lol.

11. Requiem For A Dream
Not exactly "Feel Good Movie Of The Year" material.

Half the theater was crying when I first went and watched it. Women were breaking down like they just lost loved ones. A girl I knew brought her friend to it and the ending was so intense for him that he had a seizure and an ambulance had to come and pick him up.

That is one sad film.

26. It's a very good movie, but disturbing...msg...
not disturbing "gross", but disturbing ideas. It conveys hopelessness like I've never seen captured on film. I didn't cry when I saw it, but you could just feel the desperation oozing from the screen.

It's a great movie, by the way. Utterly, utterly great.

19. movies that come to my mind
"Pink Flamingos" is one. Personally, I wouldn't mind having a girlfriend who's twisted enough to appreciate that kind of humor, but I'd rather not find out the hard way on a first date.

Another would be "Last Exit to Brooklyn." It was written by the same author who also wrote "Requiem For A Dream," and it's just as disturbing.

22. I'm with you...
I guess 'cos I just watched it. I'd probably be more concerned, though, if I was spending the evening with a gentleman who carried his banjo everywhere with him.

On the other hand, I would be okay with watching Deliverance if some female of my interest suggested it, just 'cos it's such a good movie. Sure, it'd be a real mood-killer, but it's been so long since I have had female companionship in that context that I'd probably not even register the lack of romantic possibilities that the movie provides. And, hey, good movie.

Perhaps following it up with An Affair To Remember or Somewhere In Time would be a good move on my part...

First boyfriend and I watched Mortal Kombat in high school because we were both too chickenshit scared to watch a romantic movie. Lasted six months.

Second boyfriend (and current) and I watched South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut because we actually wanted to see it. Going on seven years now ;-)

it's never a good time to watch this one

70. Neil Labute's "Your Friends and Neighbors".
An absolute horror show, or as I described it on IMdB "The 'Glengarry Glen Ross' of relationship movies." A nasty piece of work.

73. Don't see it on ANY date. God I hated that movie. I hated every single
character and left the theater feeling like there is no hope for humanity. Yuck.

74. I saw it with a guy that I was just starting to date...
...and we were suddenly very wary of each other afterwards. That movie just nipped things right in the bud.

Nicholson is so good and he was actually good looking back then.

76. Happiness
A movie about dysfunctional people with sexual dysfunctions. The word "disturbing" just doesn't seem adequate, both in degree and manner.

98. That movie is MEGA-creepy.
Child rapists aren't high on my list of comfortable subjects, nor are movies that make children say lines like "Would you fuck me, Dad?" while sobbing.

Great film, but not really the best one to associate with a first date. Not exactly a "feel good romp."

83. Rules of Attraction
Based on the Bret Easton Ellis novel. Movie opens with a girl being raped and then vomited on. I actually took a girl out on our first date to see this movie. I had NO IDEA this scene was in the movie. I apologize profusely.

87. Irreversible
If the graphic depiction of a man getting his head caved in with a fire extinguisher in an S&M bar didn't douse your chances, the 7 minute long rape scene in the subway certainly would

The director Gaspar Noe's other movie "I Stand Alone" probably wouldn't be much better. A guy causes his girlfriend to miscarriage by slugging her repeatedly in the stomach.

He's one depraved Frenchman... but his movies are rather good - repugnant in an artistic, compelling sort of way.

people yell "Hi Patiod!"

Granted, it was college, but my friends wondered about me.

Made it worse when we walked out before the end.

94. My husband and I saw "In and Out" on our first date
I remember later asking my dad if he thought that meant my husband (then boyfriend) had homosexual tendencies.
Years after the fact, I asked my husband why we saw that on our first date. He said that the only other choice that fit with my schedule, was "Kiss the Girls" which would have been even more inappropriate but for a different reason.
