We had a doctor bill that was overdue by two days....

So I wrote out a check, and across the statement I wrote....

I bet you were absent on the day they talked about patient empathy....

for $5 (which was a mis-charge because they had me down for a $15 copay instead of $10)

At any rate, I get the bill on monday.

I call the office THAT DAY--the day I got the bill---to talk about the charges.

The billing woman says "Well, you know this bill is past due, right?"

and I sez "Well I find that hard to believe since i just took the thing out of the mailbox TEN MINUTES AGO and it's dated from THURSDAY"

she sez "oh. well. yeah. okay"

I had put the check in the mail the day that it was due.

I interpreted the letter as a threat and I complained to the appropriate authorities.

10. I paid a bill to a doc very late once

with a note attached to it that said that since they didn't think it unreasonable that I'd had to wait two months to get in to see him, I didn't think it unreasonable that they had to wait two months to get their money.

Much more likely that it was his billing service. Very few docs have enough time to handle that sort of thing themselves. Not that it makes it much better, but I'd guess that your anger was slightly misdireceted.

that it may have been some overzealous jerk in the billing department rather than your doctor. The doc very well may have no clue that the bill was overdue at all. :shrug:

Perhaps because it is my own chosen career, I find that a lot of DUers have an image of doctors as money-obsessed immoral assholes to a degree that I don't at all agree with.

That said, it still really sucks that anyone, doctor, bill-collector, whomever, would treat you like this.

I think the problem between doctors and patients as far as billing goes is tht the Doctor isn't involved with the billing...

When I worked with a CPA firm, we always went hard line.....

But in my own small practice, I work with the people who are struggling...

But this particular Doctor is an Ass Hole to boot....
