Are anyone else's cats having a Hork Day? |
|
I've had to pick up three food-accented hairballs since this morning. Ick. I was not aware I missed that particular meeting. :P

So it WAS a scheduled holiday! Happy Hork Day to you too!
I've never heard of Spot Shots until now. I'll look for it. Grocery store, or pet store?
As far as changing their diets, oh ha ha. :D I may try to sneak some SD in with the other stuff, though. Thanks for the tip.

Blue can w/ orange cap.
Brushing them helps a little. And our cats like the SD stuff, which was a surprise.
 Enjoy the holiday! ;)

I finally found Whole Foods cat food, it seems to ease the hairball distress a little bit.

But it's only noon. Give Simba time and I'm sure he'll conjure up a little present for me. He's the main offender in that regard. For some reason Monty doesn't do it very often, and Morrissey has NEVER barfed in the 2 months we've had him (knock on wood).

I may have to try that on the kitties, although they're pretty finicky and can put on a harrowing display of grump if they don't like what's in their bowls... :D

Little Morrissey especially, but he was just adopted in June, so I'm sure he probably had something COMPLETELY different. Now he scarfs it down with the best of them!

Bear won't let them come up, he swallows them bacck down (ugh!). Dora and Scribbles both shed like mad, but seldom hairball. I feed them all hairball formula food because Bear has had to take a trip to the vet before over a hairball that wouldn't pass. An anti-inflammatory shot took care of it.

But they sure are shedding an awful lot. I don't even have to brush Jessica--her fur is coming out in clumps. :(
The two boys are developing mats on their backs as well. Time for a good combing to see if I can get rid of them.

Mine span a wide range of fluffiness in the short hair category. Of course, the ones that need brushing the most won't stay still for it. :D

two are longhaired (both male), one shorthaired male (though very thick coat), one medium length female (her bro is the Maine coon lookalike), and one other shorthaired female. The short haired female, Jessica, is my oldest, and the one with the fur that's coming right out. One of the male longhairs, Oliver, has a totally different fur coat than Garibaldi, the Maine Coon wannabee. While Garibaldi's is a typical thick long coat, Oliver's got a very silken coat with different lengths to the two different kinds of fur that make up his coat. While Garibaldi has got that huge (20 lb) Maine Coon frame, Oliver is lanky and long. He's also the young kid on the block--he's about three. He belonged to my friend's mom who passed away in May. All my others are over 10 right now.

That's a lot of brushing...! The vet had to shave a patch of fur off Caesar's neck to get some blood, and we found out that the cat is actually 1/4 inch further away than we thought. His fur is very short, but really really thick; the vet was pretty amazed.
Socrates is the fluffiest one of the bunch. His brother Plato needs the brush the most, but he won't even stay in the same room with it. Meanwhile, the line forms to the left whenever we brush anyone - Plato's never in the line. :D

23. With mine it's not so much hairballs |
|
but one of them (and I can't figure out which one) has a bad habit of chowing down the kibble and then drinking water with makes the kibble swell up -- then said kitty horks up kibble to relieve the discomfort!

Very easy to clean up cat barf from tile.
Hork is the perfect descriptive word for cat barfing.

For some reason, mine seem to get in hork mode after I brush them. I guess burshing loosens up enough fur that doesn't get picked up by the brush, and then it's "let the horking begin!". Ick. :S
