Lawsuit Says "The Island" is a Clone
Scott Weinberg writes:

"Sci-fi geeks have been telling about it for weeks, but the similarities between Michael Bay's "The Island" and Robert Fiveson's "Parts: The Clonus Horror" are about to be aired in a federal court ... barring a quick settlement, of course....

The first time I saw the trailers for this turkey, my immediate thought was, "WTF? Somebody's remaking Parts: The Clonus Horror?" I wasn't cynical enough to guess that somebody was just ripping it off without permission or compensation.

Who just watched Parts on my old MST3K tape a few nights ago and was startled to see how similar it is to the Island...)

2. It Wasn't Quite a Clone
They just used some spare parts and threw the rest away.

:smoke:

This movie frustrated me because it could have been so much better. They really missed an opportunity.

3. Michael Bay is sharp guy --- but not a storyteller. If I am correct, he
is trained at art center in Pasadena, known for churning out technically proficient photogrpahy grads.

4. As One Critic Put It
Most directors use something called a "script". Michael Bay uses a deck of cards where the four suits are "EXPLOSION", "CAR CHASE", "FIGHT", and "SEX SCENE".

In this movie, he starts out fairly restrained, setting the scene and trotting out the plot points from the Clonus story one by one. You can almost pinpoint the exact moment (about forty minutes in) where Bay's dose of Ritalin wore off and he reverts to type.

6. In that case, Michael should stick to photography
And leave filmmaking to anyone not named Michael Bay.

7. LOL me too
And, to hear it told, it's just as bad as the original...

That was one of my favorite MST3ks.

"We aren't at war with Eurasia!"
