Liberals look at the glass as being half-empty
--the latest according to a Republican friend. I'm just a pessimist. Don't *even* want to know the good things going on in Iraq.

I give up.

6. The moof version
An optimist sees the glass as half full
the pessimist sees the glass as half empty
a liberal sees the glass as not being enough for everyone
a conservative sees the glass an proclaims " that's not enough for me "

10.  Thank you as far as is known here it's one of a few orginals.
along with one of the newest

"people with narrow minds seem to be always getting them caught in other people's cracks "

well still working on that one but still a valid observation.

8. 90% Empty, Actually...
And they're woorking on taking the rest.

Republicans see the glass as ever-full, yet are paradoxically enraged when anyone else gets a bit of it.

14. Speaking of glass
I was reminded of the time my cousins and my siblings were walking to see a waterfall. The trail we were on was littered with hundreds of bottles. One of my cousins picked up a bottle and hurled it at a tree where it exploded in a shower of glass. This apparently looked like great fun to the rest of the guys and so my cousins and my brother proceeded to pick up bottles and wing them at nearby trees as we kept walking. The air seemed to be filled with flying bottles which were soon to shatter. I was maybe 16 and my cousins were 17, 15, 14, and 13 and my brother 13. I made a couple of protests but was unable to stop the carnage.

That seems to me to be a metaphor for this administration. They are gleefully starting wars, looting the treasury, despoiling the environment, strengthening the police/prison state, and squeezing the workers, like young males gleefully flinging bottles at trees. As a humble Democrat, I am looking at the present destruction and risks of someone getting hit with by a bottle or a piece of glass shrapnel and of a future woods full of broken glass. The glass is not half empty or half full, it has been deliberately shattered.

It is not a question of a war that has gone badly. The war has done what they intended it to do - give them an excuse to silence domestic criticism and stir up jingoism, make huge profits for their cronies, create a media event and a "war president". It is not about whether their policies are working (half full) or not working (half empty). It is about the malevolence behind the policies. They are not there to solve problems, they are there to enhance wealth and power.

You cannot make an omelet without breaking a few eggs, but some people seem to think they have made an omelet when they have only thrown some eggs at a tree. It's not an omelet, it's a nasty mess. Mission accomplished anyone?

16. exactly
the President will have to excuse me if I fail to see the sunny side of killing 100,000 people for defending their own country; for running up a debt my kids will have to pay off; for fouling the air they'll have to breathe.

18. Can't help but look at the glass as half-empty
when we know the Rethugs are going to come along and siphon off what's left right quick. Back in the Clinton era we would have no problem seeing it as half-full, as the contents would be moving upward and possibly spilling over in time.
