3. He looked at the facts...

And went over things with a fine-toothed comb before allowing them on his newscast. That's been widely mentioned by many people who have worked with him over the years. He made an effort to understand what was really going on, especially in the Middle East, and wasn't afraid to reveal the depth of things that he saw, and how they affected him. He also made an effort to reach out to the average person to hear their story, whether it was in Sarajevo, Beirut, or while he was "In Search Of America." And he also reached out to many, many young people.

His reporting is his legacy, but over the last few days, it's been said that his legacy will also include saving many people's lives because of his fight against lung cancer in his final months. Peter Jennings' story has given a lot of people a wake up call to be aware of what's going on with their health, as well as their world.

5. That's what I really appreciated about him

He was just so well-read. He didn't just regurgitate the same old crap, he actually took the effort to learn about what he was reporting. Barbara Walters made a comment yesterday that if they were doing a parade and Barbara talked about a guy on a horse, Peter Jennings would know the horse's name and what the horse ate that morning.

I agree about the lung cancer. I think between him and Dana Reeves, a lot of people are going to be making changes in their lives.

2. I liked Jennings because he believed in foreign news

He believed that we must cover the world not our little corner of it. He understood the world and I think empathized with many other nations complaints against the US. He was also a hell of a good reporter. Something that is sorely missing these days.

that was $10 million a year, and that wasn't for his reporting, it was for his serviceing the ruling elite who think they know what's best (and really don't give a fukk if facts prove they don't) for our planet....the world is in a downward spiral that cannot but end badly for everything alive, well in this solar system anyway....and peter jennings, at the risk of his life, could have fought the enemy, but he didn't; he helped the enemy (that's why they sing his ghastly praises now: hunter thompson was 100 times the man jenning was, and lookit how they ignored his recent passing!)
sorry to be disagreeable on this, but $28 grand every day, year in year out, seems too much for a newsreader, hell it was even too much for a sellout!

11. "at the risk of his life" probably being the key

Not one to usually engage anyone showing less knowledge of a subject than a reply would be worthy but in regard for Peter's willingness
to explore almost any viewpoint this shall be an exception.

First, you are likely very close to the truth about risking death to expose light in some corners that desparately need it. But as most people faced with the choice might tell you it is one thing to risk your own life but quite a different thing to risk the life of your own children for what may well be a futile effort.

Second Peter Jennings was far more than just a news reader.

Third if you had the opportunity to relieve corporate america of vast sums of their money while helping many people with no one to tell their story at all while tweaking the nose of corporate america when a good chance came along, what would your chioce be ?

and last in the coming future, what little there is of it left, you may well wish there was someone half as impartial and articulate as Peter was to help show what is going on in the world for twice what he was paid.

The 24 hour broadcast at the turn of the century. By the time it was in its final hours, Peter was so loose I half-expected to see him fire up a joint.
