So, has anyone here had lasik? |
|
Can you tell me about it? Are you glad you did it or are you still going back for dozens of reconstructive eye surgeries?

1. My sister-in-law had it |
|
and is extremely pleased with the results, going on 5 years now. Like any procedure, there can be problems. Good luck.

2. I haven't, but I have a friend who has |
|
My friend had it a few years ago and is very happy with the results. He didn't need any further surgeries, and is happy to not need glasses anymore.
(I don't think I'd be a good candidate, my eyes change too much, and I have both myopia and astigmatism.)

4. I had it done 4 years ago |
|
and it was the best $2200 I ever spent. I now have 20/15 vision and I can barely remember wearing glasses. Except sometimes I dream with my glasses on! I can feel the weight on my nose. It's very weird.
I would strongly recommend it. The equipment is much better now and the procedure is cheaper, too.
Now the bad news: the procedure is quite uncomfortable. But only for about 5 minutes.
But do it if you can afford it.
A couple of pointers; get a doctor whose has performed at least 1000 (the more, the better) at an office with a laser that is less than 1 year old (the newer the better)

7. about a week to be completely back to normal |

from what I remember I had it done in the late afternoon and went home to bed pretty much right away.
My eyes were tender for about 4-5 days.

6. I'm going to beg to differ |
|
I have a friend who had it done a year ago. The doctor is a high-advertising egotistical sumbitch who apparently takes in anybody. He was "let go" from the teaching hospital here, and took up private practice. To make a long story short, he botched the operation, and apparently everyone else's that day as well (dirty instruments, I think). My friend has to wear THREE pairs of contacts these days, and she can barely see. We've begged her to sue the pants off this guy, but she's so intimidated by him she thinks he can do no wrong. My advice, if you're thinking about doing it (and personally, I wouldn't), is to carefully research the doctor you're thinking about using. And GET A SECOND OPINION!

8. I just took my best friend to get it done Monday. |
|
She has had a hard time with it. As they started it, they realized she has a loose something (something that is part of the cornea) and while they were doing it, it scratched her eye. They are going to wait for the other eye since they will use a different approach (only 1 in 100 people have the loose layer that she has). It has been painful, but she is seeing the results today. She is happy she did it, but is dreading going to get the other one done. It is well worth it though!
