Dysfunctional??? WTF? Why not disfunctional? |
|
I'm thinking of declaring a moratorium on this dys crap. Unless someone can give me a good technical reason for this, the dys spelling is a goner.
...I swear, I'll do it.

1. I think there is a difference between dis and dys |
|
Dis meaning "not"
And dys meaning "counter"
so disfunctional would be not functional, and dysfunctional would be counter-functional.
Like "dystopia"

2. Why not go the other way, and replace all Dis with Dys. It's way cooler. |
|
Dysgusting, Dysguise, Dysingenuous, Dysfavor, Dystressed. It's so rock and roll that way.

Taverner wins the prize though for tweaking my need to be technically correct about everything and generally appealing to my anality.
Please be generous enough to overlook the shitty construction of the above sentence.

Edited on Thu Aug-11-05 02:44 PM by darkblue
I used "disfunctional" in a post yesterday, but then my brain suddenly gave me one of those "you-might-be-misspelling-it" moments. "Dys-" is certainly not a common prefix. "Dystopia" is the only other word I can think of right away that uses that prefix.
