Grocery store PAYBACK- I am such an ass but it felt soo good!
I have a thing about people blocking the aisles at the grocery store. You know the type, they park their buggies across the aisle instead of leaving room for other people to get by. They always act so shocked and apologetic when you ask them to move it.
So, today I was at the store and some girl had her cart at a 45 degree angle blocking the way. She saw me coming down the aisle but continued shopping. I then got within 10 feet of her and parked my buggy at a 90 degree angle blocking her way. When she regained awareness she made a little pfft noise like I did something wrong. I then said, "Don't you hate it when idiots block the aisle, sort of like you were?". I was smiling when I said it though!

1. RIGHT ON!
What I hate is when neighbors meet up at the market and block the aisle (or the dairy case or whatever) while they chat, oblivious to people who actually WANT TO SHOP AT THE MARKET not gossip!

14. I've walked up to people and asked if they had phones...
Edited on Thu Aug-11-05 05:52 PM by YellowRubberDuckie
Because they need to fucking use them instead of blocking the aisle like they are the only ones in the whole fucking world. God I hate people who think the world ends at the tips of their noses. I wish I could just beat them with a really big stick.
You're not an ass...but I AM a bitch.

2. You're not an ass. There is no point being polite to rude, self-centered,
passive aggressive attention whore idiots! People who behave like they are the only person in the world need to start receiving come-uppance for it. Some of them might learn and become civil members of society. Some of them won't. Fuck em.

32. That's a very funny exchange!
Very American in its crazy mixture of understatement and quirky perceptiveness. Very little to go, but all the funnier... Funny to begin with, but your cryptic last remark heightened it tenfold.

4. Nicely done!
There is little that pisses me off more than people who block passageways- the assholes at the grocery store blocking an aisle so they can chat or reach for their thirteenth jar of pre-processed shit.

Or the assholes who come through a door and then stand right there, blocking it.

Or the assholes who stand at stairwells.

Or the assholes who stand right in front of the elevator doors (on the floor) so that you can't get off the elevator.

Or the assholes who go slow and block the fast lane.

What is it with fucking assholes?

Mother of fucking Christ, they're everywhere!

And this is why I continue to posit - and to affirm - that the vast majority of Americans don't deserve to live.

5. I know how you feel...
Here's my grocery story. A woman is blocking the mayo/mustard aisle with her cart, yacking on her cell... I asked her to move. She ignored me. Asked again, same, but with an added huff!!! Finally she gets off the phone as I push past her for some Miracle Whip. She pointedly told me SHE IS A DOCTOR!

I promptly explained that we were in the mayo AISLE, NOT the MAYO CLINIC! She stomed off muttering!!!

16. There's another response to that.
I have a friend who managed a movie theater and an important (broken equipment) call she was on got an 'Emergency Interrupt" from the operator. The Operator connected the call and this fucking bastard starts asking for movie times! She started to rip him a new one and he has the balls to say "I'll have you know I'm a DOCTOR!" Teri's response was "And this means what?" He hung up, IIRC.

your answer was perfect.

You know the difference between God and a doctor? God doesn't think (s)he's a doctor

6. What about the people who push their carts
up the middle of the right-of-way in the parking lot, while you're driving 10 feet behind them at about 2mph looking for a place to park. They're oblivious and almost always move verrrry slowly. I guess it's the exact same people you're describing, just on the outside. It's definitely a personality type, they don't consider anyone else but themselves.. AKA Republicans.

9. I'm glad it made you feel better, but it won't matter.
People are in another world when they're shopping. It doesn't matter if it's a grocery store, general merchandise store like Kmart or WM, or BJ's & Sams Club. I think they go into some kind of trance, and are so absorbed by all the things available for them to buy, they are completely unaware of anyone else around them.

I know it gets agrivating. It does to me too!

It's just not worth letting it get you upset. I'm sure no one is doing any of these ignorat things purposely to pi** you off.

15. I just move their carts out of my way
Sometimes they glare at me for touching their things, but I just smile and move on.

People who block the grocery aisle are the same people who drive 10 miles under the speed limit in the left lane. They are also the ones who, while walking on a crowded city street or in a mall, will just stop dead, without any regard for the people behind them.

21. My remedy
When I go to a store for any trip long enough to require a cart, I first go to the hair care / cosmetics sections, wherever you can buy a hand mirror. Then when some asshole blocks you, get his / her attention and let them see you drop the mirror in his or her cart. When you get the inevitable puzzled look, you explain that if they think so much of themselves that they can block an aisle like that, the mirror will come in handy.

If it doesn't come up, just put the mirror back as your last stop before you hit the register.

I only need a cart one time out of every ten or so that I visit a grocery store (I usually use the basket), but it's sad to note for every ten times I care enough to grab the mirror at the start of my trip, I wind up using the mirror five or six.

23. I know what you mean
Unfortunately both my grandmothers like to block the aisles. I hate shopping with either of them, because I hate to block the middle of the aisle. My mom and I tell them not to block the aisles but they do not care. They think they have a right to block others.

29. Stores add to the congestion on purpose.

They put up displays especially in the meat/deli and produce depts that will intentionally slow people down so that the shoppers will look at the merchandise and hopefully buy it.

36. Good for you
I get so annoyed by people who do that, or groups of people who see nothing wrong with spreading across an entire aisle to have a gabfest. Then there are the ones who let their kids run amok while they remain oblivious. Just yesterday I was trying to shop while a boy was repeatedly ramming a cart up and down the aisle within inches of me. I nearly turned to him and snapped "if you want to play ask your mother to take you to a playground!". Instead I bit my tongue and just kept looking for what I needed.
