Anybody see this? It is about the last ten days of the Third Rich. This is a very well done movie and portrays Hitler as a human that has no compassion (sound familiar?) It is filmed by Germans in Petersburg, Russia. The buildings in Petersburg are built by German architects and have not been destroyed. The story is based on two books about the time and an eyewitness. Really great movie and as accurate as (I believe) it can get. One more thing... Bruno Ganz as Hitler is uncanny!
on edit for spelling and grammar.

1. Get this movie. See this movie. It is a masterpiece. |
|
I can't say enough good things about it. In some ways, the most compelling presence in the film was barely seen, the advancing Russian army. The swine in the bunker knew that their day was done, their number was up, and when the Russians arrived, there would be a price to pay that was incalculable in terms of Nazi pain and suffering. So what does Hitler do, kills himself so he doesn't have to face the consequences.
This is just amazing film work and acting.

3. The Russians were NOT good guys.... |
|
But I can't help but allow just a small little ounce of glee come out when I think of the punishment they dished out to the Nazis at Stalingrad and to the concentration camp butchers after liberating them.
From what I understand they allowed prisoners of camps to decide the fate of their torturers in most cases (Americans did this occassionally as well)
I normally never advocate revenge but I can't say I'd be thinking of Buddah all that much if some butcher killed my brother and tortured me for over 2 years and I had my chance to get a little payback right then and there....

and create this very realistic movie depicting the end of the Third Reich. So realistic that it sent goose bumps up my spine.

Just know that when you do finally see this great movie that you are going to be treated to such as you don't expect! Oh yeah, how good is your German? It helps to know some German when watching this film. Also, if you want to be extreme, a good German meal is called for here: Red cabbage and pork chops! Yum! Wash that down with some Liebfraumilch, Yum yum yum!

I saw this little dandy on Netflix and immediately moved it to the top of my que and should be getting it this Sat.
Glad to hear it was good, Bruno looks EXACTLY like Hitler from the photos of the movie. I can't wait to see it.
