Barking man bites letter carrier (Is it time to ban humans?)

HOUMA, La. — A mail carrier wasn't worried when he heard barking. The man had already made sure the pooch in the yard he was about to deliver to was chained up.

It wasn't the barking dog that got him, it was a barking man, police said.

Mark D. Plumb, 20, of Butler, Mo., was arrested and charged with simple battery Wednesday after he ran barking from a house and bit the letter carrier on the shoulder, Houma Police spokesman Lt. Todd Duplantis said.

Plumb said he bit the carrier as a joke and has no history of criminal activity or mental illness, police said.

SNIP

“We don't expect that a human being is going to run up and bite one of our carriers,” said Frye.

Plumb is free from the Terrebonne Parish jail after posting $165 bond.

1. I wouldn't find that joke very amusing
Human bites are actually more dangerous than many animal bites if they break the skin. I would have maced the guy.

2. That guy has a strange sense of humor.

It would have been understandable if the biter had been maced, but I'm sure the letter carrier was caught totally by surprise. I mean, who expects something like that anyway?

3. I expect the possibility in my jobs, but then the people I work with
have mental retardation and/or mental illnesses.

4. I think that might be the case in this situation!
The guy obviously has poor impulse control and a rather warped sense of reality. I know you can't diagnose someone based on what you read in a newspaper article, but I don't think I'm out of line to say, "That boy ain't right,"
