Just had wonderful DU moment |
|
I live in Alabama....
My wife gave me an early birthday present of a Democratic Underground t-shirt and I decided to wear it today. Things were pretty hectic around the house this morning as my wife went off to work and I got our two year old ready for daycare. We were running pretty late and my mind was on the million things I have to do today, so when I got my son to daycare, the last thing on my mind was my DU shirt. I'd completely forgotten I was wearing it. That made it even more special when a mother dropping off her child stopped me and said, "Sir, I don't know what the Democratic Underground is, but if I see another 'W' sticker my head is going to explode."
Like I say, I was in a huge rush to get my child situated and then get to work myself, so I only had a second to talk to her. I told her DU is the best place on the net and that she should come here for real news. I also asked her if she knew about Cindy Sheehan. The name didn't ring a bell, but when I mentioned Cindy's protest, she knew what I was talking about.
I had to leave pretty quickly after that, but the day seemed a little bit brighter. Now I'm at work and I'd better get started on those million things I have to do.
Just thought I'd share.

3. Yep, I invited her to join |
|
and the link is on my shirt. I got the one that says "Democratic Undergound.com" in big, bold letters. I hope she drops in to see what we're about.
I don't know about anyone else here, but when I found DU three or four years ago, it was like coming in out of a cold, dark wilderness into a bright, sunny day. Maybe that can happen for her, too. :-)

Maybe we should all wear something like this every Friday. We might start a revolution.

5. Even when we think what we do is of small consequence... |
|
it is still very important that we do it. We never know the ripples our modest efforts will create.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Gives yet another illustration of how true the Mahatma's teachings are.

6. I wore my DU t-shirt waiting on the platform for the Amtrak train. |
|
A man who was there seeing off his wife and daughter spotted it and we proceeded to have a lovely chat. He'd never heard of DU, but he was a big fan of Molly Ivins and Jim Hightower. He asked my husband if he could help his wife and daughter with their luggage and kind of keep an eye on them and we were happy to do that. All because of the shirt.

There IS a God!
I live in the same area as tanyev, and wearing my protest shirts and buttons keeps me sane. I make a silent statement wherever I go. I get dirty looks, and I get happy "I like your shirt!" But I'm letting everyone know how I feel.
Even where you don't think you'll find folks who are sympatico, they surprise you!
Congrats on your day brightener! FSC
